What You'll Do
The Global Clinical Head for Immunology Cell Therapy holds a senior leadership position within a new and dynamic organization at AstraZeneca. This is an exceptionally exciting and prestigious role, contributing significantly to AstraZeneca's global objectives and the value targets of our portfolio. Reporting directly to the Head of Immunology Cell Therapy in Boston, this individual will also be a pivotal member of the leadership team. As the Global clinical head, they are responsible for spearheading the program and related studies in immune-mediated diseases. The GCH is the most senior medical scientific expert on an asset/product/indication team and is a core member of the Franchise Team (if applicable) and/or the Global Product Teams (GPT). Moreover, this role offers the outstanding opportunity to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams at the enterprise level, including Oncology, Alexion, and several development partners, thereby improving the overall impact and reach of the position.
Responsibilities:
Provide expert clinical and medical expertise input into overall cell therapy programs and portfolio strategies.
Accountable for all clinical scientific aspects of the product/asset, including the benefit/risk of a product and/or asset as well as the scientific strategies for clinical components of the Target Product Profile (TPP), Target Product Claim (TPC), Clinical Development Plan (CDP), Clinical components of regulatory documents and core labelling texts.
Single point accountable leader for the design, delivery and interpretation of clinical studies ensuring
the ethical and scientific integrity of the plans, studies and the products in compliance with GCP
Provide impactful medical strategy and cell therapy expertise to Research, Translational Medicine, Early and Late-stage Clinical Development and Commercial Partners, including in the development of therapeutic area strategy
Closely follow medical developments within assigned areas, including cell therapy for autoimmune/inflammatory diseases, and disseminate new information within Clinical Development and wider organization, to transform trends and emerging data into agile clinical plans
Work closely and collaborate across early and late clinical development, partner functions and wider AZ organization in Oncology and rare disease to ensure the design and delivery of clinical development plans with high quality and speed
Essential Qualifications Required for this Role
M.B.B.S. or M.D. degree, MD/PhD with speciality or experience in the Immunology therapeutic area and CAR-T cell therapies
Postgraduate subspecialty training medical training in a relevant field with a history of holding substantive clinical positions at the attending/consultant level preferably at a major academic medical center
Minimum of 10+ years of expertise & experience in both the clinical setting and the drug development process, specifically in designing development strategies and delivering Phase 1-3 programs coupled with the appropriate regulatory and commercial insights required to achieve a successful product approval and launch.
Expertise & experience in all stages of the drug development process coupled with the appropriate regulatory and commercial insights.
Adaptive problem-solving and learning and the ability to navigate complex organizations and systems
Ability to influence both high-level internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to frame clear & succinct messages and simplify the complexity of decision-making
Track record of leading successful high-performing global cross-functional teams as well as line management experience.
Fully conversant with science as it relates to the brand
Strong leader seen as credible with Key Opinion Leaders, Payers and Scientific communities. Specific and relevant Therapy Area expertise.
Strong vision and excellent problem-solving skills, passionate, and have the drive to succeed.
Entrepreneurial in the style of working and have the energy level to create and lead a group of motivated individuals
Ability to communicate and influence at high levels with both internal and external stakeholders.
Proven ability to learn new information rapidly and effectively
Desirable Attributes for this Role
Immunology, Rheumatology, Transplant, Neurology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology or other internal medicine specialty Physician board certified or board-eligible
Experience of working with Market Companies to deliver studies/projects
Experience of clinical/commercial interface

Ability to travel nationally and internationally

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $309,354 to $464,031.Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
