Get to Know This Role

The role of Quality Practitioner and Technical document Specialist will be responsible for SQF compliance through maintaining an organized and detailed library of documentation. This position will be responsible for the administration and control of all SQF, Food Safety and Quality documents that are received, created, or issued for the business, as well as working cross-functionally with various departments to ensure technical documentation and operational SOPs are in place and fit for purpose. This role is familiar with a variety of brewery concepts, practices, and procedures, with a strong technical writing background, and experience composing technical information into clear, concise content for both technical and non-technical audiences. This position also contributes to continuous improvement of our quality program at our co-packing facility. The expectation is this role will perform these functions with safety as a priority, in alignment with Sierra Nevada's stated Vision and Values, and in full compliance with applicable regulatory guidance.

What You Will Do



  • Ensure facilities comply with SQF standards. Participate in annual audit preparation and 3rd party audits. Manage corrective action requirements from SQF internal and 3rd party audits.

  • Review all applicable documents to maintain compliance with SQF guidelines

  • Initiate an annual review for senior management, as well as updates provided to plant management on implementation status and maintenance of the SQF system, at a set frequency

  • Collaborate with managers to gather and transform technical and functional information into fit for purpose standard operating procedures

  • Develop training documentation, Standard Operating Procedures and fulfilling other process definition technical writing requirements

  • Coordinate, assemble, review, research, edit, update, analyze, and prepare technical reports/documents both in hard copy and electronically

  • Perform monitoring activities of SQF programs including: Verification, Validation, internal and external audits, and Recordkeeping to ensure facility's continuous compliance with SQF code requirements

  • Supports new and on-going co-packing partnerships from a food safety perspective, to ensure SNBCo quality standards are embedded and on going performance is monitored.

  • This role is responsible for production and support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Safe Quality Food (SQF) System as defined in the SQF Code. There will be Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety and Food Security Training as required by Local, State, Federal and SNBC policies.  All duties will be completed in a manner that is consistent with all aspects of Company Safety Rules, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF). Employees shall report food safety & quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science related curriculum or any combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved required. required




  • 3 years in a production or lab environment with strong understanding of quality assurance systems (i.e., HACCP, cGMP, FDA and/or USDA regulations, etc.). required

  • SQF certification experience or equivalent experience required

  • PCQI training preferred

  • ISO 90001 Lead Auditor preferred




  • Exceptional written/verbal communication skills and the ability to productively interact with all levels/teams across the company

  • Knowledge of and experience in interpretation of SQF or GFSI codes

  • Development and revision of standard operating procedures (SOPs)

  • Manufacturing sanitation & chemical hygiene

  • Skilled in both independent work & teamwork

  • Workflow optimization

  • Root cause analysis or other complex problem-solving techniques

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC)

  • HACCP, internal audits, and good manufacturing practices (FSMA, cGMP)

  • Risk assessment and risk management

  • Project management skills & abilities

  • Continuous improvement activities and methods

  • Ability to thrive, adapt, and work in a fast-paced, and fluid environment

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with and guide others

  • Strong planning, organizational, and prioritization skills

  • Proficient in MS Office 365
