Job Description:

Estimating: Understand the market you are in. Know and create positive relationships with all your customers, competitors and suppliers. Have knowledge of all crews and all equipment maximum and minimum capabilities. Understand all facets of the pavement marking industry. Be involved with associations that positively impact the pavement marking industry and environment. Know and understand the geographical area you are working in. Know the present cost of all materials used within your market. Understand the cost associated with all the equipment used and be able to adjust those cost as needed to come up with an accurate estimate for all projects being bid. Know where to find all advertisements withing the geographic area you are working in. Must be able to understand and use Excel for estimating purposes and be able to create and adjust formulas within.


Essential Functions


 Supervise and develop employees, including crew leads, overseeing pavement marking crews, along with hiring and managing staff and strategically setting their schedules, ensuring coverage for emergencies.



  • Coordinating with crew foremen to leverage assets and meet installation

  • Reviewing, developing and/or modifying work plans, methods, and procedures, as well as assigning and distributing work.

  • Have a strong knowledge base of signage and markings with understanding of MDOT specifications and MUTCD, to monitor compliance and make recommendations to

  • Resolve problems, mediating conflicts, determining appropriate solutions, and promoting teamwork. Encouraging regular communication and informing leadership and crews of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization.

  • Manage material inventory, anticipating needs and

  • Develop and maintain relationships with contractors and state

  • Communicate with contractors on upcoming projects to keep an accurate and up to date schedule.

  • Visit job sites regularly to keep positive relationships with crew, contractors and

  • Strong leadership aptitude, with the ability to encourage, motivate, inspire and challenge a team.

  • Verify crew quantities and material application rates to provide accurate invoicing and material usage for accounting.

  • Establish projected crew schedule to assist in asset planning and material

  • Performance evaluation of foremen and other

  • Work closely with Safety Manager to maintain safety

  • Audit Samsara to ensure logs and DVIR's are being kept up property and timely.


Estimator Functions Responsibilities



  • Visit sites daily that advertise construction projects and review to see if there are any pavement marking items.on them.

  • Keep a list of upcoming projects and review several days ahead of time in case there are errors that need to be addressed before the project is

  • Get a plan holders list for all upcoming projects up for

  • Put estimates together a few days in advance of projects up for bid in case questions need to be asked.

  • Check projects for addendums before sending out

  • Get project quotes out to contractors in time for them to review and call with any questions before they send in their bid.

  • Check status of quote with apparent low bidders after opening for

  • When possible, after the bid find out the prices the competition put out to maintain the highest profit margin possible when sending out quotes.

  • Create electronic fills for different types of bids for easy

  • When quotes have been confirmed low, input worksheets into the system so accurate projections can be made for inventory and back log

  • Travel to and from work sites to stay informed on how the projects are being put together verses how they were bid. Must stay in tune to reality.

  • Communicate with project managers about upcoming projects and how they were estimated to help them be as profitable as possible.

  • Make management aware of any project that will need bid bonds for and estimated dollar amount of bid.

  • Know Federal, State and local pavement marking products and application

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, within your scope of

Experience

Required
  • 5 year(s): Must have at least (5) five years supervisory experience.
