Job Description:

The Controls Engineering Manager is required to manage a large department of analysts, specialists, and engineers in the design, build, maintenance and long term operational support of Process / Pipeline Control Systems and Terminal Automation systems (hereafter referred to as control systems). The control systems are used in 24x7 real-time operations for monitoring, controlling and optimizing the processing, transportation, storage and delivery of hazardous liquids and gas. The control systems fulfill a mission critical function for Enterprise Products Partners. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Ultimately responsible for the overall performance of the control systems used by operations personnel within Enterprise. This includes the architecture, operational status, functional capabilities, currency, cyber security, regulatory compliance, safety systems, and suitability for duties as designed.
  • Responsible for interconnection, development and support for the real-time process historical data used by operations management, commercial and engineering.
  • Responsible to review and approve any applicable Enterprise engineering standards and procedures which address or affect control systems.
  • Responsible to manage capital and expense budgets including the review, approval and allocation of such budgets to operations as necessary.
  • Responsible for identifying, vetting, and selecting control system vendors which meet the operational and capital project needs of Enterprise.
  • Responsible for leadership; building and encouraging an open, creative, engaging, challenging work environment where employees are encouraged to grow and develop in their roles.
  • Responsible to participate in industry organizations to stay abreast of and lead the industry to safer and more efficient operations of control systems.
  • Other duties as required.
The successful manager will have the follow qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field; and 10 years of commensurate experience in managing large scale liquids and gas control systems.
  • Knowledge of process industry and current regulations with respect to safe operations.
  • Knowledge of pipeline industry and current regulation set with respect to control center support.
  • Ability to effectively interact with operations, control center personnel, vendors, other departments, and senior management.
  • Able to work effectively to manage and encourage a team environment.
  • Ability to sometimes work under a great deal of stress.
  • The ability to communicate well and quickly trouble-shoot problems is required.
  • At times may be required to lift up to 20 lbs. to facilitate normal job duties of moving control system or office equipment.
