Position Introduction


The Department of Hispanic Studies at Vassar College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning fall of 2025.

Position Description


We seek applications from candidates whose scholarly work engages Mexican cultural production from the 19th and early 20th centuries and its relationships with other Latin American cultures. The ability to build bridges between literary, cultural, visual, and/or media studies is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, the ability to teach Spanish-language as well as advanced literature/culture courses, and evidence of promising scholarly research. Experience or interest in collaborating with one or more of Vassar’s multidisciplinary programs will enhance an applicant’s portfolio. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English is required. PhD in Spanish, Hispanic Languages and Literatures, Comparative Literature or related field must be in hand by time of appointment.. Teaching load in the first year is four courses; after that it is four courses plus a tutorial-style “intensive,” which may include supervision of senior theses.

Salary Wage Range


Pay Transparency Disclosure: The annual base starting salary range for this position is $92,000 to $102,000 (USD). This range includes new faculty appointments beginning the first year of a standard tenure clock as well as Assistant Professors with previous tenure-line experience who will be on an accelerated tenure clock. When extending an offer of employment, Vassar College considers factors such as (but not limited to) candidate’s education/training, work experience, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations. This salary range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting. The starting salary for an Assistant Professor in this position with a PhD beginning the first year of a standard tenure clock in Fall 2025 is $96,000.
