JOB TITLE: Structural Superintendent
REPORTS TO: Production Manager, Structural
Summary of position: Responsible for production, quality control, workforce management and safety of all employees on designated job or jobs. Work with company and shipyard employees to coordinate the job. Inspect all areas of the job for proper working conditions.
Essential Job Requirements: Responsible for entire project. Maintain personnel control and discipline of personnel assigned to their job site at all times. Organize, supervise, lead and train employees to complete projects within established guidelines and timeframe. Submit crewmembers’ timesheets into payroll by deadline. Work within the scope and budget assigned to project and coordinate progression of the job with management and the customer. Interact effectively with shipyard management and their employees. Always required to make decisions. All of the above shall be performed in a safe and timely manner. May be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the Executive Management.
Required Experience: Preferred ten years’ experience in marine ship repair or new construction.
Required Skills: Job knowledge, organizational skills, leadership ability, communication and interpersonal skills are a must. Ability to motivate employees, maintain high morale and command respect. Able to deal with diverse workforce and dynamic environment.
Physical Requirements: Stamina required; frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and crawl. Required to reach with hands and arms, use hands to feel, grip or handle; regularly required to lift and/or move heavy objects. Required to use vision for up close, distant and peripheral inspections.
Mental Requirements: Must be able to do simple to complex math. Must be able to problem solve, organize and prioritize work.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Must direct large numbers of employees at one time in a productive and safe manner. Directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring or making recommendation for hiring, training, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Working Conditions: Regularly exposed to dusty conditions, extreme temperatures, high noise level, outdoor weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces. Often works on scaffolds and ladders for long periods of time. Travel often required. Shift work and overtime involved most of the time. Risk of injury to self and/or others due to electric shock, falls and cuts.
