Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Assists the Managing and Assistant Editor in various tasks necessary for maintenance and publishing of the IUMJ.
Works with the journal secretary in accounting procedures for the IUMJ (creating and submitting invoices, etc.), to ensure all paperwork submitted to the university is proper in content and form.
Manages daily correspondence for the IU Math Journal
Works with the journal secretary in training for editing mathematical papers in Latex, maintaining subscriber databases, filling subscription claims, and responding to correspondence from subscribers and agents.
General Responsibilities
Under supervision, performs a variety of complex administrative and creative tasks related to the composition, layout, and printing of publications and projects.
Processes orders for the publication and printing of books, journals, business cards, signs, stationery, and other printed literature. Related responsibilities include interpreting job specifications including identifying stock and bindery requirements to adequately impose files, programming functions of digital production printers, operating high-speed black and color production sheet-fed digital toner-based printers, and operating wide-format inkjet devices including roll fed, flatbed, and sheet fed to produce a variety of products including banners, posters and diplomas.
Reviews and makes minor corrections of customer-submitted files using various graphic arts software applications; troubleshoots errors with customer and/or department prior to printing, sets print specifications, initiates print order, reviews final print proofs for accuracy, operates printing and bindery software and equipment, and transfers and archives publication and electronic files from various sources following printing.
Operates and maintains various printers; operates bindery equipment such as automated punchers, coil binders, inserters, envelope sealers, and power cutters; may operate various other equipment including power fork truck, pallet jack, departmental delivery truck, etc.
Regularly consults with writers, printers, faculty, staff, and/or other stakeholders to ensure adherence to printing and publications deadlines.
May provide guidance to other Publications Assistants. May perform other responsibilities as needed.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
