General Counsel Job Description and Responsibilities
The primary purpose of the position is to serve as a trusted legal advisor to executive leaders and key personnel from a variety of business units and affiliates throughout the organization. This position reports to the Chief Compliance Officer and will, among other functions, ensure compliance with all relevant legal, contractual and policy requirements by:
Identifying risk, ethics, and compliance issues, and providing strategic advice and training
Providing legal support for mergers, acquisitions, joint venture agreements, and other corporate transactions to include reviewing, drafting and negotiating legal documents and agreements
Improving and creating policies, processes, and standards within job discipline
Overseeing, managing, and providing guidance and direction to direct reports
Collaborating with other departments to ensure alignment on legal matter
Managing processes in support of required reporting submissions
Coordinating engagement of outside counsel
Staying informed about changes in laws and regulations that may affect the enterprise
Completing other job-related duties as may be assigned
Compensation Minimum: 190000
Compensation Maximum: 210000

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from an accredited U.S. institution and a Juris Doctorate from an accredited U.S. law school
Current Hawaii State Bar Membership (or ability to obtain membership) and Alabama Corporate Counsel Certificate (or ability to obtain Certificate)
Exceptional verbal and writing skills
Deep knowledge of regulations and statutes related to Native Hawaiian Organizations
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. May include lifting weighing up to thirty (30) pounds as necessary. Vision abilities required in this job include close vision.
