The College is accepting applications for a part-time lecturer to teach a summer course for the Mellon Summer Research Training Program's class, "Engaged Scholarship: Foundations for Critical & Social Theory and Practice." One may apply as a single instructor or propose to teach jointly with another. Responsibilities would include teaching a nine-week course that meets on Monday afternoons from 3:00-6:00 PM, from June 10-August 6, 2024. Responsibilities would include:


  • Lecturing once a week.

  • Leading small group discussions.

  • Holding office hours.

  • Maintaining a course Canvas site.

  • Managing online discussion posts.

  • Guiding students in developing a short paper about the critical theory they will deploy in their future research projects.

Applicants must hold Ph.D. candidacy status or a Ph.D. degree in history or a qualitative social science field and demonstrate a well-developed interest in contemporary theories of race, gender, and class. Applicants must also possess at least one year of college-level teaching experience. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how they have engaged in the values inspiring the Mellon Foundation's work. Familiarity with the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship and programs like it is a plus.
