Job Description SummarySummary: The Senior Director of Development, College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences provides leadership, direction, and coordination for all activities relating to development for the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. This position also serves as the main communication liaison with the Dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, faculty, and College Board of Visitors in order to fully understand and articulate the vision of Wake Forest University.
Job Description
Essential Functions:
Leads advancement efforts for the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
Manages the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for an assigned group of prospects, including individuals, corporations, and foundations, with a focus on major gift activity.
In addition to leading the fundraising efforts for the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, dedicate personal fundraising efforts to the graduate programs.
Develops and implements comprehensive fundraising goals, objectives, and plans for the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
In partnership with the Associate Vice President of Academic Fundraising and dedicated university advancement colleagues, organizes all functions of the College Board of Visitors.
Assists the Associate Vice President in identifying and working with key volunteers to establish and strengthen advisory boards for the College.
Assists the Dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in identifying and working with key volunteers to establish and strengthen advisory boards for the College.
Coordinates personal visits to alumni, parents, and friends for the purpose of qualification, identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects and potential volunteer leaders for the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
Establishes and implements effective plans for promoting capital needs, endowments, and other long-range funding activities.
Writes and submits proposals based on input from alumni, friends, and University academic leaders.
Works in conjunction with the Donor Experience team to develop and execute stewardship activities including, but not limited to, reports reflecting the use of a donor's gifts, interactions with faculty, and other engagement opportunities.
Coordinates prospect qualification, identification, solicitation, and stewardship activities via personal visits, telephone, email, and letter writing.
Establishes and implements short- and long-term departmental goals and objectives; evaluates program effectiveness and makes required improvement changes.
Serves as a key member of the Dean's management team and as an ambassador of the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
Serves as a key member of the Associate Vice President's team.
Promotes University priorities and image to constituents. Serves as front line staff to promote campus goals and objectives. Maintains current knowledge of university-wide institutional priorities. As appropriate, and with the knowledge of the Vice President, qualifies, cultivates and solicits prospects on behalf of other campus units.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of eight years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
An accomplished fund-raising professional who understands the nature and purpose of higher education and who has extensive, successful experience in fund-raising at progressively higher levels; strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills reflected in an ability to work effectively with senior management personnel, professional colleagues, and prospects in a team-oriented environment.
Knowledge of modern university capital gift techniques.
Knowledge and a proven history of gaining support and financial commitment of others.
Knowledge and a clear understanding of Wake Forest University, its component schools and programs, strategic direction.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of alternative, creative, and entrepreneurial fundraising programs, methods, and techniques.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Knowledge of communication principles and marketing techniques.
Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new planned giving strategies and procedures.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to identify and secure alternative funding/revenue sources.
Familiarity with using enterprise customer relationship management systems.
Familiarity with using business intelligence tools and dashboards.
Ability to supervise and train volunteers and student workers, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
