Job Summary

The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a PT Instructor, Interior Design. Las Positas College is seeking adjunct (part-time) faculty for its Interior Design Program mainly focusing on teaching the Fundamentals of Lighting. The program is a career technical education program, leading to transfer degrees as well as Certificates of Achievement for students wishing to enter or advance in this field.

The ideal candidate will possess current knowledge of the Fundamentals of Lighting, demonstrate good communication skills, have completed a degree in Interior Design, and possess experience in the field.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Instruct courses in Interior Design in accordance with credit course outlines both in-person and/or on-line.

  2. Maintain expertise in current teaching methods, discipline knowledge, and discipline specific technologies.

  3. Assist students in achieving stated course objectives.

  4. Evaluate the progress of each student and notify students in need of counseling services and/or tutorial assistance.

  5. Track student learning outcomes and maintain records of student learning outcomes.

  6. Participate in the departmental process of curriculum review, modification, and the assessment of student learning outcomes in order to make the program successful.

  7. Support other design instructors in cooperating with campus and community groups to provide programs, courses, and information relevant to the needs of the students and various programs.

  8. Coordinate with other faculty in the selection of textbooks, audiovisual and other instructional materials.

  9. Attend various departmental, divisional and campus-wide activities and events as required.


Minimum Qualifications:

Any Bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications:


  1. Bachelor's degree in interior design or related field.

  2. Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different levels of students' ability and learning styles.

  3. Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to students from different cultures and ethnic groups.

  4. Demonstrated ability to use innovative and creative teaching techniques and equipment, including the use of multimedia hardware and software and on-line instructional techniques.

  5. Demonstrated leadership in developing curriculum for discipline specific courses and/or programs.

  6. Demonstrated leadership, ability, and desire to stay current in the field.

  7. Demonstrated leadership and ability to work with business and industry in order to coordinate the educational program with the needs of the community.

  8. Interest in or knowledge of teaching online and other distance education courses.
