In this role, you will work closely with Global Operations & Compliance to ensure that international transactions comply with legal requirements for accurate export and import declarations with local customs and other government authorities. This role involves assisting in the creation and management of a comprehensive export/import compliance framework to ensure compliance with regional regulations.
Here's What You'll Do
Manage daily operations of trade compliance matters related to customs exports and imports for a range of materials, including DS, DP, APIs, consumables, clinical, machinery, lab equipment, and more, in accordance with North American regulations and local laws.
Oversee operational processes to ensure trade compliance in areas such as valuation, export licensing, technical data, foreign travel, re-exports, re-transfers, and export/import shipments.
Provide technical advice on customs topics such as classification, origin, valuation, and special procedures.
Oversee the completion of trade compliance reviews, audits, and risk management.
Ensure the configuration and control of the export/import registry and trade compliance documentation in accordance with local regulations.
Ensure the maintenance of accurate trade compliance records in accordance with local requirements.
Provide support for new process requirements across the business.
Manage projects and tasks within the team and with external teams or vendors
Develop and maintain effective relationships with the relevant government regulatory agencies.
Provide performance metrics for export and import processes.
Ensure the implementation of standardized and integrated international trade procedures in order to optimize corporate efficiency and minimize regulatory risk.
Act as the primary point of contact for all customs broker relationships.
Support implementation of Digital/IT tools to drive automation of processes and optimize trade compliance procedures
Act as key user for Trade Compliance systems and tools.
Additional duties as may be assigned from time to time
Here's What You'll Need ( Basic Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in a related field (Business, Economics, Finance, Supply Chain Management, International Business) or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 8 years of work experience, including at least 4 years in a compliance, legal, auditing, or investigation role
Regulatory knowledge of US and Canada regulations (CBP, CBSA, CFR19, FTR15, EAR, OFAC, Sanctions) required.
Here's What You'll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience in life sciences, preferably in biotechnology, medical device, and/or pharmaceutical industries.
In-depth understanding of the US and Canadian Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) and ability to classify commodities, with proficiency in Chapters 29, 30, 39, 38, 84, 85, and 90.
Thorough understanding of Routed Export Transactions.
Knowledge of export controls, export control classification process (ECCN#), export licensing determination process, Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR), and EEI filing compliance.
Strong operational knowledge and experience in import and export compliance policies and audit procedures.
Experience and knowledge of bonded warehouses, special regimens, and 3PLs.
Strong customer focus, work ethic, and integrity.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Strong critical thinking, sound judgment, and decision-making skills.

Knowledge of Trade Compliance tools (SAP GTS, Descartes, MIC, E2Open, etc.) and SAP Fiori.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, with a focus on Excel.
