Job Summary
The Assistant Director, Careers in Computer Science and Technology will scale up programming and resources designed to prepare undergraduate students for successful careers in the technology industry, computer science, data analytics, and related fields. In addition, this team member will lead efforts to expand the University's employer network, with a particular focus on placing students in jobs and internships with large tech firms.
This role will oversee an advisory council of alumni and employers in tech who will update the University on industry trends and guide its efforts to make the College a top destination for computer science talent. The Assistant Director will also travel frequently to regional tech hubs including the West Coast and Bay Area to build and strengthen relationships with alumni, employers, and other stakeholders in the region. This team member will also provide one-on-one advising for students, organize and execute impactful career education programs, track and report key data on student outcomes, and collaborate with campus partners as needed.
This position requires a passion for empowering students for career success, strategic thinking skills, strong relationship and program management skills, and ideally a background working in higher education, talent development, or in a partnerships-focused role. The ideal candidate will be a proactive relationship manager and talented individual contributor with a record of success in complex, fast-paced environments.
Responsibilities
Builds and maintains a portfolio of tech employers to drive internship and full-time job opportunities.
Plans and leads events in targeted geographic areas to foster engagement with alumni, employers, and other University constituents.
Oversees an external advisory council of alumni and employers working in the tech industry.
Designs and implements career programs and resources for students interested in tech, drawing on deep industry expertise and connections.
Organizes and leads programs and workshops highlighting opportunities in computer science and related fields (e.g., hackathons, overseeing technical interview workshops, planning and leading career exploration trips to tech hubs around the world).
Connects students with research opportunities in computer science in both academia and industry.
Provides high-quality career advising to undergraduate students and alumni through one-on-one career advising sessions.
Provides a high level of customer service and support to employers who partner with UChicago Career Advancement.
Assembles campus and industry resources to assist students in gaining experience with coding.
Analyzes placement and survey data to develop data-driven strategic initiatives.
Advises and counsels students concerning employment opportunities and careers by acting as a liaison between students and prospective employers.
Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Education:
Bachelor's degree.
Experience:
Prior experience working in talent development or human resources in the tech industry or supporting technical roles.
Background working with college-aged students, recent college graduates, and/or early career professionals.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Proficiency with tools commonly used in innovation, such as data analysis tools and other industry-relevant technical skills.
Skilled in the technical recruitment process for a variety of computer science roles, including software engineering, data science, product management, and UI/UX design.
Knowledge of recruitment tools and services, including online employment sites, CRM systems and other resources for job seekers.

Work evenings and occasionally additional weeknight and weekend days.
