This position is concerned with supporting the design and development of new or substantially redesigned existing products in accordance with industry regulations, cost and quality guidelines. It will also support other key business functions such as quality control and sourcing initiatives.
• Conducts testing to support quality, purchasing, and existing product initiatives
• Prototypes and tests new design concepts from engineering
• Compiles, writes, and catalogues test reports
• Supports the establishment and maintenance of ISO 17025 methods for possible A2LA certification
• Facilitates equipment maintenance and calibrations as well as equipment financial records
• Writes and maintains SOP for lab equipment and testing procedures as necessary
• Cross-training new hires on laboratory SOPs
• Works closely with management staff to establish realistic task completion dates
• Communicates testing schedule and delays to key parties
• Works within budgets and schedules for the development of new products and other business critical needs
• Conducts an ongoing search for new processes, and procedures to enhance the Innovation Center's capabilities
Completes special studies on as required basis including failure analysis of existing products
• Promotes Dayton policies by setting an example for all fellow workers to follow
Support the preparation of test specimen for mechanical and concrete testing as needed
Clearly communicates limitations, scheduled dates, delays, etc. to requesting parties to ensure excellent service and timely completion.
May perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Product evaluation and testing
• At least three years in increasingly complex problem solving/troubleshooting hands-on position.
Associates Degree or Technical training related to mechanical testing, Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering preferred
• Experience in an A2LA Certified Lab preferred, but optional
• Excellent technical, conceptual and mechanical skills
• Hands on experience with mechanical testing laboratory equipment.
• Ability to work within multi-disciplinary team and to facilitate team efforts to accomplish goals successfully
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and familiarity with CAD/CAM system used in process/product engineering (Solidworks preferred)

Background in Failure Analysis
• Moderate physical effort required to, bend, stoop, lift, walk and operate test equipment
• Maximum unassisted lift 50 lbs, average lift less than 30 lbs
• Requires ability to use a keyboard, monitor and calculator
• Requires the ability to communicate verbally, both in person and on the telephone
• Will require occasional travel to vendors, test agencies and construction project sites
• Inside average office and or warehouse environment.
• Average to moderate noise levels.
• Personal protective equipment required when operating test equipment or at construction sites.
• Ambient temperature between 68• and 76• (warehouse area may be reach higher temperatures in warmer months)
