In this highly visible, cross-functional leadership role, the Senior Director, Data Strategy, Portfolio & Enterprise Data Governance will lead data strategy for Medtronic including Medtronic Data & Analytics Council, portfolio & program management for Medtronic Data & Analytics Council initiatives, leadership and implementation of Enterprise Data Governance and data culture & literacy initiatives including AI/GenAI. This role will also have responsibility for the development and oversight of patient data governance & management, including patient data strategies and initiatives to ensure the efficient, accurate and timely collection of patient data while ensuring high standards of data integrity, quality, privacy and security.

Day In The Life

The Senior Director, Data Strategy, Portfolio & Enterprise Data Governance will:


  • Design and implement data strategy enabling business objectives and priorities.

  • Develop and implement data governance policies, standards, and best practices across the organization & drive the Medtronic Data & Analytics Council.

  • Be a trusted advisor to the executive team, shaping and guiding strategic priorities.

  • Introduce and continually improve data governance standards and processes.

  • Define and execute the Data Governance Strategy, ensuring data quality and governance and driving innovation.

  • Build the roadmap to achieve the Enterprise Data Strategy, enhance efficiency, improve data quality and drive competitive advantage. Partner cross-functionally to ensure all strategic data initiatives are captured within the strategic plan & roadmap. Develop & estimate funding needs & sources for strategic initiatives.

  • Be a trusted partner with Operating Units, Functions, Analytics, Legal, Privacy, Security and IT ensuring that policies, processes and standards are defined and adhered to end-to-end.

  • Create & implement the patient data governance & management strategy including identification and oversight of strategic data initiatives to drive significant improvements in data quality & management, ensuring those improvements are sustained over time.

  • Drive prioritization across the project release schedules to enable business transformation priorities while enhancing data quality and enabling efficient operations.

  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership to align data initiatives with business objectives, ensuring that data supports and accelerates strategic goals.

  • Foster collaboration and alignment with cross-functional teams, including IT, analytics and executives.

  • Lead, manage and develop a team of data strategy, culture, data governance & program/project professionals to ensure the effective implementation of data initiatives.

  • Define and implement continuous improvements to data strategic planning, culture, portfolio management and data governance to increase value delivery, strategic alignment, on time, budget & quality implementations and competitive advantage with data.

  • Define and enforce an enterprise-wide data governance framework for consistent data policies and practices.

  • Advocate for data quality and best practices, ensuring adherence to data protection and privacy regulations.

  • Work closely with senior leadership to provide strategic guidance on data governance and compliance matters.

  • Serve as a key liaison between different business functions and IT teams to ensure alignment and integration of data governance practices.

  • Stay current with data standards and best practices related to data governance, data quality, data marketplace, and the ability to collaborate across all the data disciplines.

MUST HAVE (Minimum Qualifications)


  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. • 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A)

  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with 10+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience with 10+ years of managerial experience

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred Qualifications)


  • Bachelor's degree in Data Management, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.

  • 15+ years of experience in data strategy, data governance, data management and/or data quality, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.

  • Proven track record in developing & implementing large-scale, enterprise-level data governance and management strategies & initiatives.

  • Exceptional business acumen and strategic thinking.

  • Strong leadership, team management and change management abilities.

  • Ability to formulate objectives with clear business value and demonstrate progress along the way.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, negotiation and presentation abilities.

  • Proven ability to influence and drive change across the organization.

  • Strong vision for business process management and transformation through data.

  • Experience working with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to define, implement, and operate data governance policies & standards.

  • Excellent project management skills with a track record of driving execution and results.

  • Broad understanding of end-to-end data landscape inclusive of relevant stakeholders, functions, systems & processes.

  • Excellent understanding of industry-leading data governance and management practices, frameworks, and emerging trends.

  • Deep understanding of data security, privacy and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Deep knowledge of data governance & management software and tools (e.g. data catalogs & marketplace, data quality tools, data warehouses, ETL tools, data modeling tools).

  • Familiarity with data warehousing, ETL, business intelligence environment, data management for AI & GenAI.

  • Strong blend of strategic planning & practical application.

  • Proven ability to champion bold ideas and make courageous decisions to drive meaningful results.

  • Exceptional analytical skills, ability to solve complex problems, create clarity in ambiguity, and resilience to persist in the face of setbacks. Learns from experiences and recovers quickly and moves forward.

  • High personal standards of accountability, responsibility & ownership.

  • Ability to lead and work well with multiple priorities, and effectively handle concurrent demands to prioritize responsibilities.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$198,400.00 - $297,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.
