Job Description:
Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a full-time nursing faculty member to teach certificate and associate degree courses, advise students, review curricula and provide input into the department.
Essential Duties
The following list is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position.
Instruction
- Is responsible for the creation and management of an environment conducive to the student's learning of credit course material
- Teaches 30 credit hours per academic year or the equivalent for 10-month employees or 36 credit hours per fiscal year or the equivalent for 12-month employees
- Is responsible for the preparation and use of course syllabi and the recommendation of appropriate textbooks
- Meets all scheduled learning experiences, including the final examination
- Maintains student records
- Posts and maintains scheduled office hours as required by the vice president for academic affairs, with provisions for meeting students by appointment
- Submits copies of course syllabi, copies of tests and a copy of scheduled office hours to the department head each semester
- Submits attendance rosters, midterm grades, final grades within the established time frame each semester
- Provides information on student absences and lack of performance through the academic alert system as necessary
- Contributes to the implementation of the annual course assessment process which may include developing/editing course objectives, means of assessment and benchmarks, collecting data, analyzing and reporting results, and creating and reporting progress on action plans for improvement
Department Support
- Consults, assists and supports the academic advising center
- Assists the department head with the requisition of materials, supplies, textbooks and equipment necessary for effective classroom instruction
- Assists with registration procedures
- Attends departmental meetings and serves on appropriate departmental committees when assigned or elected
- Participates in program and curriculum development and coordination
- Contributes to the program review
- Works with professionals in their field of study and with the department's program advisory committee
- Contributes to the annual and five-year comprehensive program review report for various phases of the assessment process
Professional Development
- Attends faculty professional development activities as scheduled
- Keeps current in their area of teaching expertise and in instructional methods by attending appropriate professional meetings, conferences or workshops, as well as through continued occupational experiences and literature research
Institutional Support
- Attends all institutional meetings called by the dean, the vice president for academic affairs or the president and serves on institutional committees when assigned or elected
- Participates in the peer evaluation of design skills
- Attends graduation ceremonies
- Performs other duties as assigned by the department head
Minimum Requirements
- Valid Maryland RN license or RN multi-state license
- Bachelor's degree in nursing
- Two years of recent clinical practice experience
- The ability to teach online courses
- Preference will be given to candidates who possess:
- A Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or who are currently enrolled in a MSN program
- Experience in maternity, pediatrics or psychiatric nursing
- Medical-surgical nursing experience
- Experience educating adult learners
Supplemental Information
This is a 10-month faculty position. The faculty rank is assigned by the vice president for academic affairs and is dependent on the successful candidate’s education and relevant experience.
The starting salary for this position will likely fall in this range, based on rank.
