Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The Dean of Students is a unit in Student Affairs with a mission to provide support and assistance to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill community focused on empowering students, to succeed in navigating the University environment. Position Summary:

This Administrative Support Associate (ASA) position will provide administrative support for the Dean of Students office with significant day-to-day tasks connected to the University Approved Absence Office. This position intakes contacts by telephone, email, and in-person visits, providing clear and accurate information, connecting individuals with other offices and resources, as appropriate. The ASA will be especially knowledgeable on the Class Attendance Policy and support the accurate implementation of established procedures and protocols for the University Approved Absence Office database. The position handles confidential and sensitive information based on applicable law, regulations, and university policy. The ASA may represent the Dean of Students office, including the University Approved Absence Office during outreach, tabling, and other similar events.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.


Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

* Experienced in Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
* Must be organized and can multitask and prioritize several projects effectively. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Must have excellent interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Must be able to exercise tact and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

* Experience working with college students.
* Prior experience working in a higher education environment.
* Experience working in databases, using shared Microsoft applications (i.e., Outlook, OneDrive, etc.).
* Experience providing front line office support and working with confidential information.


Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
