Job Summary/Basic Function: The Sociology Department at Wheaton College (MA) seeks applicants to teach 1-2 courses Spring Semester 2025. Each of the courses will be taught at the 200-level (i.e. an elective level commonly taken after students have taken Introduction to Sociology). We would be open to proposals for any topic (see below for suggestions) and we would accept applications to teach one or both of these courses. These 200-level courses would complement the current offerings of the Spring Semester (link to course offerings). Particular consideration would be given to courses that could be titled “Inequality and Social Justice,” “Families in Transition” or “Social Movements.” However, we would be open to other 200-level courses not already on the spring schedule. For any course, the direction of the material would be open to your conceptualization as you see it. To apply for this position, please submit an application on the Wheaton employment site that denotes your interest. You will be asked to include a cover letter that addresses the course(s) that you would propose to teach and a brief description of your teaching philosophy and a current copy of your CV. Lastly, if previously taught, please submit a syllabus for the course. If not previously taught, a rough outline of the syllabus would be great. There is not a need for this to be overly detailed and rather this would be appreciated to gain a sense of the major topics and/or potential assessments in the class.
Finalists will be contacted for an interview after the review of your application. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Questions may be directed to Chair of Society and Politics (i.e. where Sociology is located) Aubrey Westfall (westfall_aubrey(at)wheatoncollege(dot)edu) .
