About this position

As the Accounting/Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for efficient, effective, accurate and timely data entry, payroll processing and report generation. The Payroll Specialist audits and submits union benefit payments, responds to questions and provides issue resolution assistance daily, and provides training and mentoring to team members.

Day in the life
  • Obtains and enters accurate and timely HR information and payroll data into the payroll system. Analyzes and inputs timecard data to computerized payroll system for payroll. Maintains confidentiality of all Company, employee and/or customer data and sensitive information.
  • Ensures employee wages are paid in accordance with all applicable collective bargaining agreements. Actively seeks assistance to resolve or report problems when necessary.
  • Processes payroll changes including new hires, promotions, terminations, transfers, merit increases, bonuses, leave of absences, garnishments, manual checks, and various payroll deductions, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with and follows controls to achieve an error free payroll and detects any discrepancies before they appear on an employee's check or impact payroll.
  • Responds in an accurate and timely manner to all management and employee inquiries. Consults with others as needed to help resolve issues and appropriately communicate with the concerned parties.
  • Tracks and submits certified reports to ensure compliance for prevailing wage jobs. Audits and submits assigned monthly union reports and other reports as requested.
  • Scans and archives or files payroll-related documents, following all Company approved policies and procedures for document handling and retention.
  • Cultivates strong and cooperative working relationships with internal and external customers that reflect and support the Company's core values and meet or exceed the customer's expectations.
  • Consistently makes decisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.
  • Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.
  • Promotes and models the Company mission, vision and values through exercising sound and ethical business practices, championing all elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and providing high quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent. Associate degree in business administration, accounting or a related field is preferred. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or interest in achieving it is also preferred.
  • Minimum 2+ years of work experience in payroll processing. Knowledge of the construction industry is a plus.
  • Experience using payroll software and systems, preferably eCMS software systems. Expertise in Microsoft Office software applications, specifically Excel.
  • Experience working with confidential information and maintaining security of information as required. Demonstrated high level of integrity and dependability.
  • Superior analytical and mathematical skills. Strong independent problem-solving skills and high detail orientation.
  • Dedicated team player, with a prominent level of professionalism and effective collaboration, organizational, prioritization, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate with employees at all levels, including senior-level management.
  • High quality documentation and report preparation.
