University Communications and Marketing (UCM) provides strategic leadership to protect, advance, and elevate the university's brand and reputation in Indiana and around the world by creating guiding resources for and collaborating with communications and marketing partners across all IU campuses, schools, departments, and centers.



Job Summary



Indiana University Communications and Marketing seeks a Web Strategist to develop and execute brand and enrollment marketing strategies to enhance the web presence of Indiana University. The Web Strategist is a member of the Web Strategy Team, which is part of IU's Web and Digital Strategy team in UCM. The team guides the digital presence for the university, ensuring that it clearly communicates our stories, makes it easy to find information, and is accessible to anyone. It also directly manages 4 key IU websites:


  • iu.edu

  • bloomington.iu.edu

  • indianapolis.iu.edu

  • online.iu.edu

Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Develops and executes a web strategy, in collaboration leadership and other stakeholders, that is informed by business goals.

  • Defines, manages, and reports on Key Performing Indicators (KPIs); tracks and analyzes web performance metrics; and sets initial benchmarks for the university's digital presence based on existing data and from industry standards.

  • Develops and maintains an editorial calendar for content updates to the website, seeking input from stakeholders and ensuring timely publication.

  • Reviews and interprets analytics and behavioral data from the website, providing regular reports with actionable insights and recommendations.

  • Communicates performance metrics, trends, and progress toward KPIs with stakeholders.

  • Identifies and analyzes site performance issues and develops and implements strategies to address issues in collaboration with functional teams (designers, developers, content creators).

  • Independently develops and executes basic and increasingly more complex web strategies to advance marketing goals and objectives, including data collection, target market definition, market research, user research, and development of project timelines.

  • Responds to inquiries and requests from stakeholders and explains information regarding policies, procedures, user research, and best practices.

  • Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and acts as a collaborative resource in developing web strategies.

  • Manages the website's information architecture.

  • Ensures new content is housed in the right place in the university's information architecture and is created in a way that allows for optimal maintenance.

  • Interfaces with developers by communicating requirements, prioritizing new features and functionality, and ensuring that requirements are met.

  • Regularly reviews and updates web performance metrics, identifying potential issues and opportunities to address and resolve with the team.

  • Plans and leads meetings for planning and review and meetings with stakeholders to present reports on KPIs, trends, and strategic insights and discuss progress towards goals and any adjustments needed.

  • May participate in team-based planning to align strategies and deadlines across various concurrent projects and initiatives.

  • Maintains web performance metrics in the areas of accessibility and quality.

  • Provides best practice guidance to the IU community who manage websites outside of the team's purview.

  • Collaborates with designers to create interfaces that optimize for conversion and optimal user experience.

General Responsibilities


  • Develops marketing and creative strategies to promote Indiana University through digital channels and increase exposure to a target audience.

  • Develops targeting and segmentation approach for digital marketing strategies.

  • Reviews and analyzes usage trends and effectiveness of digital marketing strategies, recommend and implement changes as necessary.

  • Works with other marketing and web teams to identify a target market and create a marketing campaign for digital technologies.

  • Regularly consults with staff, faculty, colleagues, departments, and/or other stakeholders to curate social media content to specific programs, goals, audiences, and objectives.

  • Ensures alignment with university mission, strategies, objectives, and brand guidelines across all digital marketing platforms and content.

  • Designs user experience interfaces to ensure consistent and engaging platforms.

  • May plan and develops integrated digital advertising schedules.

EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in Informatics, User Experience, English, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
