Since 1966, IU Campus Bus Service has been providing bus service on the Bloomington campus. IU Bloomington's 1,940-acre campus is often considered one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation and is set in USA Today's #2 Best College Town in America. IU Bloomington is home to close to 43,000 undergraduate and graduate students and over 19,000 faculty, staff, and part-time employees.
Campus Bus provides transportation to over 3 million rides a year and operates a 6-route system with approximately 30 buses, 50 bus operators, 4 mechanics, and a management team. It has a long-standing partnership with the local transit system, further extending its reach and resources.
Campus Bus is a business unit within Auxiliary Business Services (ABS). ABS operates in a shared services model that supports finance, human resources, payroll, and marketing needs of Campus Bus.
Job Summary
Responsible for preventative maintenance and refueling of university vehicles.
Ensures the Indiana University transit buses are prepared for service the following day by replenishing fluids, utilizing bus wash, sweeping vehicle, recording defects, and submitting fuel report worksheets.
Enhances vehicle cleaning/disinfecting measures with concentrated focus on high frequency touch areas. Collects and empties garbage from waste bin.
Operates the Indiana University transit buses at the facility and parks them under the department's bus parking canopy.
Takes appropriate action to ensure the safety of themselves and others, reports safety issues upon inspection.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
1 year of customer service experience
Preferred
1 year of light automotive maintenance and driving experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
Possesses a valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire
Preferred
Valid CDL upon date of hire
ASE Light Duty Maintenance Certification

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. This role requires the ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
