MAIN FUNCTION:


The Lead HVAC Technician is responsible for the maintenance, installation, and servicing of the air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation systems, including the electrical and pneumatic controls associated with this equipment. The Lead HVAC Tech maintains a Utilities Management Program for these systems as required by the Joint Commission and other regulatory or insurance standards. The Lead HVAC Tech recommends policies and procedures designed to enhance and ensure the safe usage of all air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation systems equipment and systems contained in the program and provides support for the evaluation, selection, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide effective direction of those persons assigned in support of departmental and hospital policies, procedures, goals, and projects.

  • Maintain open, timely, and effective communication with management, peers, and all others necessary to promote the concept of customer satisfaction.

  • Provide training, orientation and coaching to employees. Provide input on performance evaluation.

  • Assist in the interviewing and selection process.

  • Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate decisions that conserve and protect the resources of the institution and serve the needs of our customers.

  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all repairs, maintenance, and related procedures to ensure compliance of the Joint Commission and hospital policy, or other regulatory agencies.

  • Maintain required logs of all work performed.

  • Ensure that all work performed is in accordance with code and other regulatory or insurance requirements.

  • Help plan and establish budgets for assigned projects; support the Director, Facilities in meeting budgetary goals.

  • Assist with the repair and installation of selected communications equipment.

  • Recommend opportunities to implement electrical energy conservation measures in the institution.

  • Provide specifications for and monitor the work done by outside contractors when necessary.

  • Plan work and order stock as required.

  • Instruct both clinical/non-clinical personnel in the appropriate use of equipment or systems to prevent misuse or malfunction.

  • Perform all duties as outlined in job code #453, Plant Op (HVAC) Technician.






Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



  • High school or vocational school graduate or equivalent courses in HVAC, computer-controlled systems, asbestos maintenance training, and mechanical equipment required

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification required within 90 days of hire

  • EPA Refrigeration and Recovery certification required

  • Massachusetts Refrigeration License preferred

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Joint Commission requirements and procedures required
