Under general guidance and supervision, operates state of the art CAD/CAM software (Cimatron/Solid Works), high speed mill (Mikron HSM400) and EDM (Charmille 35P) equipment to produce prototype parts, thermo-plastic and thermo-set injection molds, and lab equipment used in the development of new products or changes to existing products. Working from computer generated models (3D solid or surface model files) to design/program toolpaths for electrode and direct milling operations. Generally, output is compared to, or created from approved 3D-source model. Work is checked against design with use of precision measuring tools (Nikon VS/Zeiss CMM). Work accuracy is not checked by supervisor.

Responsibilities
Operates lathe, mill, drill press, CNC machine tools, and various grinders with proficiency required to produce parts to drawing tolerances. Capability to program 3D CNC Mill tool paths for direct milling operations preferred.
Performs machining tasks necessary for component Technology Project Development.
Plans and lays out work. Makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds of machinery. Selects materials, parts and equipment required for each assignment.
Able to work from 3D models, 2D drawings, blueprints, schematics or verbal instructions to produce simple and complex mechanisms, tools, jigs, and fixtures.
Able to use precision measuring instruments and hand tools to accomplish assigned tasks.
Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations.
Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Certificate in Machining/CNC
Minimum Experience:
3 - 5 years directly related machining experience preferred. Must be able to operate lathes, milling machines with a high degree of skill.
3D CAD/CAM skills/experience preferred.
Job skills should be equal to those of a Machinist Journeyman and are usually acquired through formal training programs.
