Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an Archaeologist to support environmental planning projects across the U.S. In this role, you will conduct archaeological field work for multiple projects and at all levels of investigation, from site identification to data recovery, and archaeological monitoring. You will work on projects that require shovel testing, pedestrian surveys, and site documentation. In this role, you will also be responsible for preparing technical reports and documents.

This position will require a candidate to work collaboratively with a diverse team across the U.S. Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and follows a hybrid work structure. A successful candidate can expect to work remotely and from the office, as needed, based on demands of project and client teams. The ability to travel to various project sites, including overnight travel, will be required (field work expectations are approximately 50%)

Role accountabilities:


  • As an Archaeologist, you will apply your technical knowledge to support archaeological services over a range of sectors, including linear utilities, oil and gas, mining, rail and transit, and renewable energies. You will be a key cultural resources team member and work as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team. You will be responsible for conducting archaeological fieldwork, including archaeological monitoring, and preparing technical documents.
  • You will lead cultural resources surveys and be responsible for managing archaeological field staff and field crews, as appropriate.
  • This will require a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, as well as carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. This will also require working in the field under a range of conditions (e.g., rugged and unfamiliar terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures).
  • Additionally, you will use your excellent technical writing and communications skills to author technical documents and provide survey details and results to project teams.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required qualifications for the role include:


  • Bachelor's Degree in anthropology/archaeology
  • 1-2 years of experience in cultural resources management
  • Field school or excavation experience
  • Demonstrated practical field experience in the U.S.
  • Working knowledge of GPS systems and the collection of field data
  • Basic knowledge of cultural resources management and Section 106
  • Fieldwork experience in New Mexico or areas with similar cultural resources. Ideal candidate is eligible for listing on the New Mexico State Historic Preservation Directory as a Supervisory Archaeologist/Crew Chief

Preferred qualifications:

  • Eligible for listing on the New Mexico State Historic Preservation Directory as a Supervisory Archaeologist/Crew Chief
  • Demonstrated experience supervising archaeological field crews

The salary range for this position is $55,080 - $82,620.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
