Vituity Locations: Vituity has opportunities at 475 sites across the country, serving 9 million patients a year. As part of the Vituity Scribe Program, there are multiple opportunities to fit your needs, including gaining experience in units such as the Emergency Department, Intensivist Care, Telemetry and Medical-Surgical.
The Opportunity
Accompany the provider into the patient exam room and transcribe the history, physical exam, laboratory, and radiological results as dictated by the provider. This may include selecting the appropriate template from the computer system (EDIS). In certain departments they can assist with documenting H&Ps, Progress Notes, and Discharge Summaries.
Facilitate the acquisition of diagnostic test results from ancillary departments. Compile results for the provider's review and action. Record test results on the medical record as directed by the provider.
Record, in real time, the actions (physical exam and procedures) and words of the provider. Obtain the provider's signature on every chart.
Record the discussions that occur between the provider and medical consultants or patients' family members.
Continually check the status of pending studies to decrease patient wait time and increase the efficiency of the Department. Notify provider when studies are back.
Record discharge and after-care instructions on the medical record as directed by the provider. Ensure complete and legible documentation of the patient encounter and notify provider if more information is needed for documentation. This may include reviewing triage and nursing documentation for completeness.
Review the primary diagnoses and work with the provider to ensure that all documentation is accurate and is clinically supported in the charting.
Work with the provider to ensure that all quality measures are completed.
May pend orders under the discretion of the provider if the hospital/site permits this practice.
Facilitate the following duties to help the flow of the department:
Facilitates patient flow in the department.
Assist with taking messages and directing messages to appropriate person in the department.
Provide comfort items to patients (water, blankets, etc.).
Put together urine collection kits and take patients to retrieve urine specimens.
Provide wheelchair assistance.
Transport specimens to lab if needed.
Call lab/radiology to inquire about lab results.
Communicate with provider, RN paramedic, or PCT regarding patient's needs.
Assist staff and patients with the following duties upon formal training:
Weighing patients.
Taking patient vital signs.
Other care team support duties that may be performed with site leadership approval:
Assist with calling patient families.
Assist with calls to clinics and other hospital facilities.
Walk service dogs.
Respond to nurse call lights and then inform the appropriate staff of patient's needs.
Stock non-medicine supplies in the department.
Organize nutritional supplies, linen carts, equipment, and utility rooms; notify staff of any faulty equipment.
Assist with cleaning rooms after each patient is discharged.
Retrieve wheelchairs and return to appropriate locations.
Notify RN of inpatient bed assignment and assist with getting patient ready for transport.
Assist with patient transport (formal training required).
Reconnect patients to telemetry monitoring and pulse oximetry (formal training required).
Required Experience and Competencies
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Pre-med or nursing related courses preferred (upper division Anatomy or Physiology is a plus).
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong writing skills; legibility and spelling proficiency required.
Solid computer skills; experience with EMR is a plus.
Quick and accurate typing speed.
Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent organizational skills.
Knowledge of facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures.
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
Knowledge of Privacy Policies regarding PHI and HIPAA set forth in the Privacy Policy Manual.
