Your Role:

Tetra Tech is currently seeking a full-time Community Outreach Specialist for our Kansas City, MO operations. Responsibilities will consist of:


  • Preparing public notices and placing the notices in newspapers through an agency.
  • Coordinating and arranging in-person or virtual public meetings, including preparing agendas, public notices, sending reminders and preparing presentation materials (Microsoft Power Point, posters boards, and handouts).
  • Attending meetings, either in-person or virtually, preparing meeting summaries and tracking action items.
  • Drafting and preparing fact sheets, newsletters, postcards, flyers, and community involvement plans.
  • Coordinating material with technical teams, graphics staff and clients.
  • Document production.
  • Developing mailing lists for sites, including finding and identifying local, state and federal government officials as requested.
  • Arranging for, scheduling, and attending community interviews as support to EPA, and preparing an interview summary.
  • Addressing community concerns in person, via phone, and e-mail.
  • Assisting internal teams and clients with contentious, high-profile situations and recommending communications strategies.
  • Tracking activities and preparing monthly reports.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of experience providing community outreach support. The ideal candidate must also have/be:


  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Very responsive to client needs.
  • Excellent time management skills, including ability to prioritize and manage multiple activities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint.
  • Experience with communication in various social networks.
  • Self-motivated with a can-do attitude.
  • Work well in a team environment.
  • Work well in high stress situations.
  • Work well with the public and various groups.
  • Able to multitask and handle multiple projects at once.
  • Comfortable presenting information in front of large groups (especially in high stress or contentious environments).
  • Knowledge and experience in preparing documents to comply with Section 508 compliance of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a plus.

In addition:

  • This position requires driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
  • This position requires passing a criminal background check.

Education:


  • B.A. or B.S. required, preferably in Communication, Education, Liberal Arts, Sociology, Psychology, or Business.

Physical Demands:


  • Able to stand for longer periods of time (more than 2 hours).

Work Environment:


  • Primary work environment is office, with remote hybrid work a possibility, depending on project requirements.
  • Occasional travel up to 20% to client sites and other locations to attend community meetings and conduct community interviews in Region 7 states, and possibly in other states, will be required.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work to attend community meetings will be required.
