OVERVIEW:


Finance and accounting interns have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in accounting cycles, meeting audit standards and regulatory requirements for an NP. The internship would offer opportunities to support the museum’s financial data governance work. Additionally, this is an opportunity to help in executing tactics key to the Museum’s new strategic plan


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Compiling, organizing, and updating written fiscal procedures to support the effective financial operations of the Museum.

  2. Documentation of workflows that align with data governance objectives.

  3. Assists with preparation of workpapers to complete an annual audit. 

  4. Performs reconciliations of earned and contributed revenue sources.

  5. Month-end analysis and forecasting.

  6. Prepares periodic account reconciliations for processes and general ledger accounts

  7. Prepares journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation

  8. Performs related duties or special projects as assigned

  9. Prepares schedules for monthly and annual reporting

  10. Assist with establishing procedures to optimize finance and accounting system tools.

REQUIREMENTS:



  1. Be actively pursuing a degree in finance, accounting, or other relevant fields.

  2. Be available to work at least 20 hours per week.

  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

  4. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

  5. Good problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and research skills

  6. Good organizational and time management skills

  7. Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy

  8. Understanding of accrual accounting concepts

  9. Basic knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of accounting and auditing standards

  10. Good written and verbal communication skills
