The salary for this position starts at $16.00 hourly. We take into consideration an individuals background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status.
1. Summary:
The Lead Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of the areas assigned and provides some work direction to custodial staff. The incumbent is accountable for the completions of assigned duties with a minimum level of supervision. The incumbent interacts positively with members and staff and responds to requests personally or inform the appropriate maintenance staff member.
2. Essential Functions:
Assist Custodial Supervisor in scheduling and training staff as needed.Provide additional work direction and assistance to custodians as directed by Custodial Supervisor.Complete all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintain daily upkeep of assigned area and equipment.Perform janitorial duties.Record all needed repairs and repair as directed.Ensure YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.Operate motorized equipment used for cleaning.Assist Custodial Supervisor in purchasing cleaning supplies/equipment.Schedule clean up and repairs as directed by Custodial Supervisor.
3. Relationships:
This position reports to the Custodian Supervisor who reports to the Executive Director. Member service is the incumbents main objective by demonstrating YMCA core values of honesty, responsibility, caring, and respect at all times. Provides some work direction to custodial staff and interacts with employees and members. Work closely with staff to ensure that the Association standards of cleanliness are being met and attend all relevant training programs available.
4. Qualifications:
Experience working in a lead role giving work direction to others.Experience and knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.Basic understanding of the upkeep, care and safe operation of motorized equipment used for cleaning i.e. auto scrubber, buffer, snow blower, trash compactor, genie lift, pressure washer, box compactor, sweeper, etc.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.Understanding of cleaning compounds, chemicals, and their safe and efficient use.Basic computer knowledge.
5. Work Conditions:
Move up to 50 pounds of project materials and/or tools to remote building locations up to 200 feet away.Erecting and standing on scaffolding, ladders, and platforms.Work at heights up to 30 feet for extended periods of time.Work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as neededWork in conditions that will create dirt and dust.Ability to report and record maintenance requests on work board.Perform essential housekeeping to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi reaching to full-reach overhead; couching; kneeling; working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.Ability to perform tasks outdoor in different climate.Safely operate cleaning equipment: auto scrubber, buffer, snow blower, sweeper, trash compactor, lift, pressure washer, box compactor, hand, and power tools.Must be able to respond to emergency/on-call situations.
