GENERAL SUMMARY
The Structural Project Engineer is responsible for everyday project activities, quality control, and project delivery related to structural engineering projects for buildings with focus primarily on commercial, office, big-box retail, hospitality, parking decks, educational, municipal and multi-family residential projects.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Oversee all project phases from design to contract document, structural calculations, and specification production.

  • Excellent technical knowledge within the field of structural engineering

  • Possess effective management skills and can plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of projects.

  • Supervision received is administrative with assignments given in general terms and objectives.

  • Makes engineering design decisions independently.

  • Directs and coordinates the workload with other project team members.

  • Coordinates with other internal and/or external team members.

  • Structural observation and building conditional assessment site visits.

  • Shop drawing review.

  • This position has the potential to travel up to 25% of the time. 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Strong leadership skills, ability to meet deadlines, and provide high-quality service to clients.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Coordinates, writes and/or edits specifications, calculations and reports as applied to structural engineering.

  • Highly organized, detail-driven, and conscientious.

  • Proficient in current versions of Revit, AutoCAD, Enercalc, RISA, MS Word, and MS Excel.

  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with the following Codes:  IBC, ASCE-7, AISC, ACI 318, NDS, AISI, SJI

  • Experience with a variety of building materials and elements including structural steel, steel joists, reinforced concrete, masonry, wood, cold-formed metal, retaining walls, tilt-up concrete, and shallow and deep foundation systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with structural concentration.

  • 4+ years of experience.

  • Licensure in engineering is desired or the ability to obtain.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office setting, onsite at client locations, and on construction/building sites.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires sufficient physical ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform work in an office setting, which includes extensive employee contact, frequent interruptions, the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods, to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist, to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard, to verbally communicate to exchange information, to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation, to verbally communicate to exchange information with or without accommodation, to see in the normal visual range with or without correction, and can hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. This position requires physical mobility on and around construction sites before and after the installation of landscaping, pavement, stairs, elevators, electricity, heating, and air conditioning.
