We are looking for a Sr. Human Resources Generalist (Sr. Generalist) who will join our Supply Chain HR team. This role will support our manufacturing and distribution locations in Marysville, OH and our manufacturing facility in Orrville, OH.


The position is based on-site in Marysville with occasional travel to our Orrville location.


Our Marysville campus includes the largest manufacturing and distribution locations in our entire Supply Chain network, employing 500+ associates and contingent workers. The Marysville manufacturing location produces a wide variety of fertilizer and grass seed products. The state of the art distribution center is less than three years old and is 1.28 M sq. ft. in size. The Orville site is a dynamic, multifaceted operation producing products ranging from fertilizers to mulch and soil.


The Sr. Generalist has accountability for most day-to-day HR activity at all three locations. This role reports to the Regional HR Manager, and is part of a high performing team supporting the Scotts Supply Chain network across North America. The right candidate for this role will have a strong HR background in a manufacturing or distribution environment, and a proven track record of designing and implementing people strategies that have delivered value to the business.



Everyday you will:



  • Provide associate relations services to associates in the form of facilitating open communication, resolving associate issues, and coaching.


  • Provide guidance and support to supervisors and managers on associate relations issues, policy interpretation, performance management, problem solving, FMLA, ADA, worker compensation and leave of absence administration.


  • Act as a liaison between Scotts Talent Acquisition team and the business assisting with full cycle recruitment. Partner with Scotts MSP program for contingent labor staffing and day-to-day activities.


  • Facilitate new hire orientation processes ensuring associates and contingent workers have excellent onboarding experiences.


  • Assist with HR Projects: participates on project teams and/or works independently on a variety of projects including the development of new policies, programs, performance management, succession planning, and training.


  • Coordinate associate involvement activities, plans associate appreciation events and coordinates community relations events.


  • Maintain employee HR files according to company and compliance guidelines.


  • Drive a positive culture that creates an inspiring associate experience.

  • An experienced HR professional- ideally with 3-5 years of experience in an HR Generalist type role and a Bachelor's degree.


  • Energized by high change environments and is comfortable with ambiguity.


  • A problem solver- using creative avenues to solve problems, demonstrating both breadth and depth; demonstrating strong judgment and proven ability to diagnose issues, drawing on both professional experience and strategic thinking skills to drive appropriate solutions with self-initiative.





Experienced with:



  • Supporting supply chain, manufacturing, and/or distribution sites and know that not every work environment or culture is the same.


  • A supply chain, manufacturing, and/or distribution environment. You must understand the priorities and experience of the front-line associate and can speak the language of the factory or warehouse floor. Safety, efficiency, employee relations and engagement are second nature as well as providing sound advice and counsel to front-line leaders.


  • A matrixed HR support model (centers of excellence - compensation, payroll, talent management, talent acquisition, shared services, etc.) Have worked closely with the HR leadership and corporate HR on the business' needs and support them by driving the implementation of compensation programs, benefits, talent management/acquisition and other needed programs.


  • Employee Relations experience/expertise (i.e. leading investigations from investigation to conclusion, coaching Leaders at all levels with regards to feedback/development, managing EEOC claims, leading conflict resolution).


  • Supporting front-line associates, managers, executives, etc.




The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $85,100.00 - $100,100.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.
