The SCADA Engineer supports business objectives through the following specialty areas: Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Telecom, Fiber Communication, Control Systems, Communication Systems, Cyber Security.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Designs Substation SCADA systems and telecommunication systems.
Provides technical support to field personnel and contractors in the installation, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of SCADA systems, fiber optics, Ethernet networking and serial communication systems.
Self-motivated to learn and understand varying computer/control system architectures and software.
Collaborates with other engineers, departments and utilities to maintain project schedules.
Attends meetings and training sessions to increase professional knowledge and skills.
Maintain departmental databases relating to SCADA system documentation and fiber optic infrastructure.
Performs NERC CIP compliance activities for department assets.
Develops and maintain effective policies, procedures and work instructions.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required with a major in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering preferred.
Minimum Experience:
No work experience required for an Associate Engineer level.
Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in related area for an Intermediate Engineer level.
Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in related area for Senior Engineer level
Co-op/Intern experience at a utility preferred.
Proficient knowledge of computer systems, operating systems, and computer hardware.
Sound analytical, problem-solving, organizational and documentation skills.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors and individuals inside and outside of the Company.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to multi-task.
Above average knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access).
Ability to learn and utilize job specific software.
Basic understanding of Geospatial Information Systems.
Basic understanding of optical transport and wireless systems technologies, including both TDM and IP based communication systems.
Working knowledge of SCADA protocols, networking, and serial communication standards.
Familiar with electric drawings, symbology, and documentation.
