Role:


This position is responsible for the oversight and development of the Mortgage Loan Department of the credit union. Manage the origination and support areas ensuring all mortgage lending activities confirm to all legal and internal policies ensuring compliance with all regulatory bodies. Responsible for portfolio management including servicing, monitoring, and development. Develops and maintains mortgage loan policy and objectives. This position is accountable for the production, operation, and compliance of the Mortgage Loan Department.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Directs the management of the mortgage loan portfolio and assure that policies and procedures are implemented and maintained to optimize the potential for the achievement of goals and objectives in volume, revenues, loan quality and charge-offs.

Participate in organizational initiatives/projects as related to departmental oversight. Monitor, analyze, and report on program effectiveness, systems, and products to identify opportunities for improved efficiencies and effectiveness. Drive change and collaborate with various stakeholders for the effective deployment.

Ensures that all mortgage loans are underwritten to FNMA guidelines and portfolio lending standards.

Assigns, directs, coordinates, and reviews work of staff. Recommends departmental goals, personnel performance expectations, and appropriate staffing levels. Creates a culture of success within the department. Reviews and prepares employee performance evaluations on a timely basis. Recommends promotions, disciplinary actions, discharges, and other personnel related needs, actions, or activities.

Develops and implements strategies and tactics to attain mortgage loan growth and profitability goals that will enhance and compliment the goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan.

Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the office of Foreign Assets Control.

Makes recommendations regarding loan policy and underwriting guidelines.

Cultivates awareness of mortgage products and services through frequent interaction with team members.

Reviews and monitors loan production volume for processing and origination.

Complies with the federal Fair Lending laws, including but not limited to, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (Regulation B), Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (Regulations C), and Fair Housing Act.

Complies with all other applicable State and Federal laws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures related to the position, department, and the credit union industry.

Maintain a cohesive, highly trained, motivated staff sufficient to meet daily department demand and long- term organizational goals.

Note observations of employee performance. Give and receive feedback from employee on the same, completing performance reviews within the prescribed timeframe.

Keep management informed regarding key operational issues affecting the department

Ensure the department meets its goals to maintain delinquency and foreclosures below established goals.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience

Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.

Education

(1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g. information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).

Interpersonal Skills

Work frequently involves exercising advanced conflict resolution, giving material presentations, and resolving issues impacting multiple departments or divisions. Role also requires the ability to motivate or influence others as a material part of the role, with a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the role and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to the success of this position.

Other Skills

Must have in-depth understanding of and ability to interpret regulations affecting lending programs. Extensive knowledge of real estate lending practices and procedures. Should be able to run spreadsheet and word processing software.
