Job Summary



Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Responsible for the integrity of the IU Conferences general ledger and advanced accounting and cash flow activities for Indiana University Conferences, which provides conference services for all university campuses totaling in excess of $10M in revenue, and over 1200 conferences and events annually.

  • Works with departmental staff for accounting and comparison of cash flows and expenses and proper billing procedures; prepares departmental financial reports.

  • Manages the business aspects of the auxiliary unit by proposing and obtaining university approval for annual rates, conducting ongoing comparisons of rates vs. revenue, and auxiliary accounting reporting.

  • Evaluates current financial reporting systems, accounting and collection procedures, operating systems, and budgets and make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets and other financial control functions as necessary.

  • Summarizes and forecasts on the state of the IUC financial affairs on a quarterly basis.

  • Prepares quotes, budgets, budget justifications for new and ongoing funding applications.

  • Performs journal entries consistent with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Prepares balance sheet reconciliation, monitor's accruals, and analyzes information by creating complex reports.

  • Responds to and resolves discrepancies and problems.

General Responsibilities


  • Applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Performs detailed accounting assignments requiring knowledge of accounting theory and principles.

  • Assists in developing and installing accounting systems, procedures, and controls to safeguard the organization's assets.

  • Performs a variety of accounting assignments such as the preparing, maintaining, and reconciling complex ledger accounts and related financial, regulatory, and management reports, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, depreciation statements, cash flow, repayment schedules, and regulatory reports and filings.

  • Provides specialized analysis for various accounting activities, including gathering, processing, analyzing, and evaluating data for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, reconciliations, and balance sheets.

  • Verifies accuracy and makes recommendations for corrections.

  • May provide guidance to lower-level accounting employees.

EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 2 years of relevant experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES



Preferred



  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Indiana license or Indiana license eligible

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
