Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for performing equipment selection, layouts and integration of specified equipment into total project systems required for industrial and bulk material handling facilities. This includes reviewing or preparing data and running specialty programs for sizing various stationary and rotating equipment. The Mechanical Engineer will engage in defining the mechanical requirements of the project phases, including conceptual, preliminary, final engineering and potentially construction/operational support. This also includes coordinating with other disciplines to accomplish project tasks. In addition, the Mechanical Engineer will be part of the project management process, which would include meeting with clients, obtaining field data, interaction with equipment vendors, participating in project meetings, establishing project standards and assisting in the development of the project design criteria.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
· Conceptual, preliminary and final design of bulk material handling systems including ship, barge, rail and truck loading and unloading systems comprised of belt conveyors, drag conveyors, bucket elevators, pneumatic piping conveyors, dust control systems and various specialty equipment
· Prepare material quantity estimates
· Coordinate and direct drafters and designers in the creation of 3D models and 2D drawings;
· Interface with Project Managers, Discipline Engineers and clients;
· Assist Senior Mechanical Engineers and design team with assembling the methodology for completing the design project effort
· Prepare sketches and designs to ensure feasibility and compliance with client specifications, industry standards, applicable regulations and any other specification on a particular project
· Check 3D models, drawings and other documents produced by the CADD group and be willing to provide red lines to communicate changes/revisions required
· Develop or alter standard project specifications to meet specific project requirements, codes, and standards.
· Create layouts and sketches to communicate design requirements/constraints
· Prepare project design criteria documents
· Assemble data and utilize in-house programs such as Belt Analyst, Overland Conveyor, and Heavent for sizing of conveyors and dust collection systems respectively;
· Review vendor/fabricator shop drawings and provide comments/redlines;
· Maintain project files in accordance with project and/or company procedures;
· Perform the field work at project sites as directed to obtain accurate information to support the design
· Participate in efficiency studies and operations analysis, including machinery and personnel in loading and unloading systems or industrial setting
· Contribute to occassional report writing, presentation development
· Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Basic or Minimum Requirements
Bachelors' Degree in Mechanical Engineering (December 2024 and May 2025 graduate eligible);
Zero with less than one (1) year experience with bulk material transport, storage and reclaim systems required;
Experience selecting mechanical equipment components including drives, bearings, pulleys, shafts, scales, and dust collection and suppression systems preferred (coursework or on the job experience);
Requires knowledge and ability to work with MS Office Suite of products (Word, Excel);

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred experience in preparation of heavy plant equipment arrangement drawings using Computer Aided Drafting and Design software preferred (coursework or on the job experience);
Familiarity with total project systems to include mechanical, structural, civil and electrical components to allow considerations of those aspects into a project or area design;
Experience in using 3D model interface/review software such as Autodesk Navisworks or similar software preferred (coursework or on the job experience);
Strong written and verbal communications skills;
Knowledge of drafting standards, mathematics, science, and engineering technology;
Ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels;
Availability and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously;
Availability and ability to travel to client sites on occasion;
Availability and ability to work overtime as needed based on project.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily conducted in an office environment and may also require occasional travel to off-site work locations.
Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel
May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis to obtain project field data or attend project meetings
Field duties may require indoor and outdoor work in a terminal, plant, or other industrial setting, around production machinery with extreme noise levels where personal protection equipment is required; must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection
