Job Summary

RINA, formerly known as Patrick Engineering, is seeking a Pipeline Survey Party Chief who is responsible for performing data collection, data processing, drafting, research, and calculation tasks relating to pipelines. The Pipeline Party Chief should be familiar with AutoCAD Civil3D and / or Microstation/Geopak/ORD. Prior experience in fieldwork regarding natural gas or petroleum pipelines is desirable, including an understanding of total station, GPS, underground locating, and LIDAR equipment. The Pipeline Party Chief will verify and establish project control, download data, and map data that has been collected.

Discipline Specific Overview

Performs office work using Civil3D and/or Microstation with Geopak / Open Roads Designer as needed


  • Performs fieldwork using a robotic total station and RTK GPS
  • Maintains organized records
  • Reads highway, engineering, and construction plans; prepares field stakeout files
  • Oversees the data collection of various features and details of construction portions of pipelines
  • Performs and reviews project research
  • Communicates daily with senior office staff

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates excellent technical and professional skills commensurate with years of experience
  • Coordinates with other staff and engineers during project execution for conformance to standards and code requirements
  • Ensures that the company safety, quality and technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of team projects
  • Demonstrates a proactive, collaborative approach with project team members, client representatives, contractors, review agencies and others as appropriate for the project
  • Meets or exceeds client expectations
  • All work is performed under the supervision of others
  • Assists with other duties as assigned by managers within your group

Professional Requirements


  • 4-12 years of experience; FS (SIT) or PLS optional
  • Strong computer skills, specifically in the area of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook; previous experience with Civil3D and/or Microstation/Geopak/ORD
  • Strong technical written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate concepts and ideas
  • Self-starter who can work independently and as part of a multi-discipline team

Physical Demands

Mobile work: exerting up to forty (40) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Mobile work involves walking and traversing project sites to collect features.

Working Conditions

The worker is required to work in the field and will be exposed to outside weather conditions. Additional environmental conditions may vary by job site.

Additional Preferences


  • Valid driver's license required (must have clean driving record)
  • Up to 100% travel (i.e. project sites) may be required based upon business need
  • Some travel may require out of town expenses that will be reimbursed
