HR GeneralistDescription/Job Summary The HR Generalist provides general HR support to the following areas: payroll performance management, benefits, compensation, recruitment/retention, onboarding/orientation, employee/labor relations, HR policies, process and procedures Responsibilities/Duties


Essential Functions



  1. Provide timely support to all employees, faculty and staff on various HR-related topics such as payroll, benefits, leave, compensation, performance management as well as resolve any issues that may arise

  2. Responsible for navigating HR data bases while working as part of the HR team regarding all phases of the employee life cycle

  3. Managing the full life cycle recruiting process from requisition, job descriptions, posting, sourcing, and employee onboarding.

  4. Assist Managers with recruitment and interview process, including phone screens, posting job ads, scheduling applicants, sending application information, and gathering feedback as necessary.

  5. Assist Talent Acquisition with gathering and analyzing data with useful HR metrics as average time to hire and employee turnover rates

  6. Assist in developing training & development for the College

  7. Assist with the performance review process by sending meeting invites, tracking attendance, following-up to ensure reviews submitted to HR both accurately and timely

  8. Maintain employee files and records in electronic and paper forms

  9. Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits, including health and dental, 401k, PTO, FMLA, and general employee personnel issues.

  10. Schedule and conduct new employee orientation activities including meeting arrangements, compilation of new hire paperwork, and overview of timekeeping and payroll systems.

  11. Input new employee information into payroll and timekeeping systems to create employee record.

  12. Verify I-9 documentation and maintain file.

  13. Maintain record of Paid Time Off leave and short-term disability.

  14. Effectively resolve and communicate to employee questions regarding all HR functions including but not limited to recruiting, benefits, compensation, performance management, training, etc.

  15. Resolve general human resources concerns by interpreting and applying human resources policies and procedures.

  16. Revise HR guidelines, processes and procedures as directed by CHRO

  17. Assist with employee engagement activities/projects such as employee recognition programs, orientation, service awards, etc

  18. Guide the interpretation and application of College policies in compliance with all state, federal, and MOU requirements.

  19. Administers Family Medical Leave (FMLA) accurately and timely

  20. Administers unemployment insurance to insure compliance with federal/state laws attends hearings and pays invoices timely

  21. Assists in the developing affirmative action and equal opportunity programs

  22. Collaborates with the State of Maryland Worker's Compensation representative to ensure accuracy of workers compensation data and records and reports Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) violations as it pertains to workers compensation;

  23. Responsible for regularly managing workplace accident data in order to comply with OSHA 300 and 310 reporting guidelines;

  24. Assist with HR Audits by providing accurate data and information

  25. Assist with year-end close of HR office

Required Qualifications

  • AA degree in HR management or a related field

  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience in similar HR Generalist or HRM position with payroll, compensation/benefits, training, and employee relations .

  • Computer Literate -MS Office, Workday, FMIS or two (2) years using web based electronic payroll systems, Banner


    Preferred Qualifications

    • BA/BS in HR

    • Higher education experience
