We are seeking a Scientific Program Supervisor and Lab Manager to supervise the coordination of research projects, coordinating various day-to-day technical and administrative functions pertaining to two laboratories with a view towards avoiding duplication of effort and providing standardization and improved efficiency. This position will also manage and coordinate various day to day technical and administrative functions pertaining to the assigned laboratory with a view towards avoiding duplication of effort and providing standardization and improved efficiency. These management and coordination responsibilities are carried out concurrently with technical responsibilities relative to the research program(s) to which they are assigned. Works under the supervision of two faculty members working in the area of NHP models of TB.


The Role:

  • Coordinates communication with the various regulatory bodies including but not limited to Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Biosafety Committee Applications (BSC) , Recombinant DNA Applications (rDNA), the SNPRC Office of the Director, the SNPRC Veterinary Resources, and the Environmental Health/Biosafety, external and internal stakeholders and collaborators in order to schedule and execute research projects in ABSL2/3. Includes support for new applications, amendments and renewals for both PI's working in the area of NHP models of TB.
  • Coordinates with both PIs working in the area of the use of NHP models of TB (Kaushal, Mehra) to submit grant applications to the NIH and other funding agencies. This includes coordination with the SNPRC budgeting office as well as the Texas Biomed sponsored programs.
  • Coordinates with the Veterinary Services Department to draft animal schedules, budgets and verify all animal work is approved through regulatory bodies for both PI's.
  • Manages the ordering and inventory of supplies and equipment for all persons assigned to the laboratory for both labs.
  • Provides liaison as necessary between the laboratory to which assigned and principal investigators and support staff personnel in collaborating laboratories and animal services for both labs.
  • Coordinates with the Office of Sponsored Programs concerning expenditures and related budget details for ongoing programs (post-award).
  • Provides support and coordination of technical staff recruitment and onboarding for both labs.
  • Maintains the supervision and time cards of those employees under both PI's.
  • Provides necessary training to new technical employees.
  • Inputs data into and manages the Dropbox data collection sites for both labs.
  • Manages, supervise, and lead the day-to-day activities of assigned employees.
  • Plans work schedules, assign tasks, coordinate workload, and provide priorities.
  • Develops, initiates and leads work projects for the development and implementation of process improvements, and policies and procedures that promote Texas Biomed's core values and align with strategic goals.
  • Coaches, mentors, motivates and leads Texas Biomed employees influencing them to take positive action and be accountable for assigned responsibilities.
  • Supports personal and career development opportunities and advancement.
  • Provides guidance and make recommendations concerning talent acquisition and retention, employee relations and employment terminations, performance management (promotions, demotions, reviews, salary adjustments) for relevant teams. Assists leaders in identifying opportunities to streamline, improve, and/or automate business processes while actively implementing changes as needed.
  • Maintains regular communication with leaders and reporting employees related to upcoming tasks and deadlines, and assist as needed.
  • Ensures that routine reports such as biweekly timesheets, safety briefing records and progress reports are submitted on a timely basis.
  • Performs basic research studies in area of technical specialty as required by the research programs.
  • Coordinates the ordering of supplies for all persons assigned to the laboratory.

  • Coordinates with the Office of Sponsored Programs concerning expenditures and related budget details for ongoing programs and proposals for new work.
  • Coordinates with the Texas Biomedical Research Institute Human Resources Office concerning the procurement of technical staff members for the laboratory
  • Maintains a close working relationship with institutional leaders

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Master's degree in Biological Science-related field from an accredited college/university required.
  • Requires 1-2 years of job specific experience.
