Responsibilities

While RS&H was founded in 1941, we have been providing construction management services as one of our primary business practices since 1984. RS&H’s Transportation-Construction Management Practice serves numerous state departments of transportation, mobility/transportation authorities, turnpike/toll authorities, rail/port authorities, municipal/county governments, and private clients throughout the United States. Our Construction Engineering and Inspections (CEI) teams as well as our Construction Management teams are industry leading experts who provide a full range of construction engineering, program management, specialized testing, and inspection services from the preconstruction phase through maintenance and operations. Qualifications



RS&H is currently seeking an experienced Senior Inspector to join our team in Houston, TX. This position will work outside on an active construction site. As part of the construction management team, you'll serve an integral role in the firm by monitoring the contractor’s on-site construction activities and inspecting materials to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and special provisions for the construction contract. This position performs highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, including making and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests. You will be responsible for coordinating and managing junior inspectors, reviewing and interpreting contract documents to determine if the contractor’s work is in compliance, and maintaining detailed, accurate records of the contractor’s daily operations and significant events that affect the work. Additionally, you will monitor and inspect the contractor’s work zone traffic control plan, perform sampling and testing of component materials and completed work, and manage the team of inspectors by coordinating their schedules.

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent and 10+ years of inspection or engineering experience (3+ years in roadway/bridge inspection) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Have a valid driver's license, be insurable, and be able to safely operate a vehicle on the highway and on construction sites.
  • Have a passion for working outside and a tolerance for exposure to the elements.
  • Possess strong organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Have the ability to effectively interact with and build relationships with others.

Additional responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Maintain detailed records of the contractor’s daily operations and events that affect the work, monitoring, and inspecting the contractor’s work zone traffic control plan as well as reviewing modifications to the plan.
  • Perform sampling and testing of component materials and completed work in accordance with the construction contract.
  • Prepare and check engineering computations.
  • Inspect the construction work and conduct field tests.
  • Manage the team of inspectors (coordinate their schedules, etc.).
