The Operations Specialist is responsible for the operation, and maintenance of gas pipelines and compression related facilities, with significant complexity above typical maintenance operations as determined by the Department.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of pipelines, working with land owners and other affected public adjacent pipelines, working within compression facilities to include compressors, engines, turbines, fans, pumps, valves, seals and other plant related equipment.
Install, repair, service and maintain valves, pipe, and any other pipeline appurtenances.
Responsible for the general upkeep, maintenance general cleaning activities, etc. of all facilities and equipment, including pipeline right-of-way, storage areas, offices and compression facilities.
Participate in Capital and O&M projects in a support role for work including excavation oversight, air mover operation, pigging support, leak surveys, etc.
Represent the Company during contacts with landowner/tenants, public officials/emergency officials and at local meetings. (One Call, Pipeline Groups, Soil Conservation, USFS, etc.)
Oversee construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third parties.
Train and oversee company and third party personnel as required (e.g., personnel in progression, transport drivers, contractors, and visitors)
Perform governmental compliance activities (PHMSA, State Agencies, EPA, USFS, etc.).
Identify report and correct safety and environmental concerns.
Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives.
Participate in the development of O&M procedures, site specific procedures, project scopes, and work plans.
Complete all applicable documentation and record keeping.
Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, regulatory, and Company tariff requirements.
Must respond to, and address, call-outs and emergencies after regular business hours including after dark hours.
Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, various operating systems, and other software) .
Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Customer focus.
Strong mechanical skills are needed.
Available for shift work and standby when applicable.
Ability to work with others as a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work with a minimum of supervision.
Ability to work with customers, suppliers, other operations groups, engineering staff, and management.
Ability to safely operate a vehicle over rough terrain.
Experience/specific knowledge (above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position):
Gas compressor stations, and pipeline system operations.
Maintenance tracking database activities and requirements.
Line locating equipment and one-call requirements.
Reading and interpreting blueprints, P&IDs and other diagrams.
Safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquid, and high/low pressure systems.
Certifications, licenses, registrations:
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet company insurability requirements.
May be required to possess a commercial driver's license, drive a company commercial vehicle and comply with all commercial vehicle regulations.
May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties
Achieve and maintain all Operator Qualifications and progression requirements applicable to the job classification.
Physical demands (must be met with or without accommodation):
Physical ability to lift as much as 50lbs, bend/stoop, kneel and climb stairs/ladders.
Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, smelling, near and far acuity, depth perception, color vision and field of vision.
Ability to use hand tools and equipment, repetitive hand use such as simple grasp and twisting motion.
Must be able to climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways, etc.
May work in low-lighted areas.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
Working conditions:
Will be required to carry a company-provided cell phone/pager, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
Must sustain regular and predictable attendance.
Depending on location and workload, travel will be required
Must live or relocate to live (by position start date) within 30 miles of reporting location. Job level will commensurate with experience and skill set of successful candidate. The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
