Overview

We are seeking a full-time IT Product Owner in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the functionality of a system or service, maximizing the value it provides to its customers and stakeholders and owning the vision for the product/guiding the team in executing on this vision, including ideation, prioritizing product features and functionality, and monitoring the usage, value, and effectiveness of the product.

Essential Functions


  • Serve as a liaison between the development team and Global stakeholders to build a viable product, maximizing return on investment of the squad

  • Define strategy/vision for product by collaborating with multiple business/technology stakeholders, and harnessing external market information, business process knowledge, and value analysis and define/drive initiatives that deliver on this vision

  • Maintain/manage a prioritized product backlog, accept the work of a squad, and lead the planning of work to accomplish results including participating in product releases/setting expectations of deliverables/timeframes

  • May manage projects requiring coordination cross-functionally and/or cross-departmentally

  • Understand and advocate for global customers and stakeholders

  • Gather, document, and effectively communicate user stories, which describe the product from the user's perspective for medium to large size projects of medium complexity for products across multiple strategic channels, with multiple stakeholders

  • Collaborate with both functional/technical architect to assess level of effort on projects, enhancements, fixes

  • Evaluate product effectiveness/suitability and market the value of the product internally to IT/the business

  • Maintain and run the product successfully (ex. incidents, performance, etc.), participate in an On-Call rotation, and look for opportunities to standardize globally

  • Assist in evaluating squad health, function, and capacity

  • Communicate at all levels including Executive level (ex. project status/health, risks, achievements etc.

  • Work closely with cross-functional project teams/multiple enterprise stakeholders to ensure requirements are understood and deliverables are aligned with long-term, enterprise objectives as well as project objectives

  • Understand/communicate business impact of issues and how they relate to IT owned solutions

  • Identify interdependencies between projects, squads, and overall business strategies and participate in alignment on priorities/timelines for overall benefit of Garmin being aligned with Executive Systems Review prioritization

  • Collaborate directly with co-located and remote development team members and business clients

  • Actively and constructively contribute to high pressure situations

  • Demonstrate quality and effectiveness in documenting work in organized manner in accordance with Garmin/IT standards and provides reliable solutions to problems including evaluation of new technologies to improve existing functions

  • Actively implement continuous improvement for a given stakeholder set for business processes/IT business analysis processes and actively participate in Garmin's Product Owner community

  • Produce Reporting metrics for applications and define/monitor performance goals

  • Demonstrate a proficient, in-depth understanding of the technologies utilized by the product(s)/portfolio and advocate for regulatory compliances for owned applications

  • Seen as the go-to subject matter expert for application/technology solution and related business processes within the squad and given stakeholder set

  • Demonstrate responsibility for ongoing personal development, professional growth and continuing education

  • Demonstrate broad understanding of one or more of Garmin's business functions (ex. Engineering, Operations, Finance, Sales & Marketing)

  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced Business Analysts and POs

  • Understand the importance of change and consistently supports change as an opportunity

  • Manage development and documentation of requirements from global Stakeholders using use cases and scenarios

  • Collaborate with other squad members which may include other analysts, QA developers, and business to define test cases and assist with testing efforts

  • Manage acceptance testing by end users to ensure appropriate standards are met and successful deployment validation is completed

  • Work with Business Stakeholders and if necessary, language services, to ensure translations are correct

  • Participate in continuing business analysis and Product Owner education courses

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR Master's Degree in one of the fields noted above AND a minimum of 3 years relevant experience

  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)

  • Demonstrates mastery of business analysis principles and methodologies and ability to apply and adapt them into requirements which meet business needs

  • Demonstrates facilitation and leadership expertise

  • Demonstrates superior analytical skills including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements

  • Experience working on Agile/Scrum project team

  • Demonstrates strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a cross-functional setting with business partners

  • Demonstrates ability to work independently with a high degree of competency

Desired Qualifications

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)

  • Certifications: PMI-PBA, CBAP, Scrum Master

  • Experience with Jira

  • Understanding of compliance and security concepts

  • Knowledge of basic application architecture concepts

  • Experience with usability, user training, and user change management

  • Experience collaborating across a decentralized, global team
