Provides labor, service, technical knowledge for installation and maintenance for all aspects of electrical operations and equipment while providing a safe environment. Performs work repairing, installing, connecting, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment in buildings in support of the University's mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Daily work:
Maintain the following systems to maximize up time:
Lighting and lighting control
Generator systems
Power wiring (0-600 volts and 4160-volt systems)
Security and fire systems
Other department specific equipment
Scoreboards
Audio/visual
Appliances
Maintain a safe working environment complying with safety standards and demonstrate safe work habits
Assist in special events as required
Responsible for behavior in accordance with university policies as well as the Facilities mission and statement of Core Values
On-call for emergency service after normal hours on rotating basis with other tradesmen in shop
Administration:
Responsible for completion of daily work log
Responsible for communication to customers and Electrical Supervisor of work order status
Makes recommendations to Electrical Supervisor for future maintenance and upgrade projects
Support:
Assists licensed electrician on daily tasks and ensures continuous development of personal performance on the job
Follows oral and written instructions and interacts with others to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing
QUALIFICATIONS:
Quickly troubleshoots and resolves problems
Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
Strong verbal communication and listening skills
Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills
Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code
Knowledge of basic electricity
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations pertaining to work performed; and understanding of use of personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials and conditions
Knowledge of methods and critical thinking process for electrical repair and installations, including tool use, personal hand tools and meters, and to use and maintain University owned tools
Required: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
H.S. diploma or GED required
Equivalent technical training required
2-4 years electrical skills as evidenced by prior work history required
Required to work weekends, nights and be on-call as assigned
All facilities employees are designated as essential personnel and are subject to work outside the normal work schedule on an emergency basis and are also subject to planned overtime work as required by the Electrical Supervisor
SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 5 (Hiring Range $19.72 to $29.33 per hour)
