Description
The Social Sciences Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago is now accepting applications for a part-time Lecturer to teach in the Social Sciences Core sequence Self, Culture, and Society during the winter quarter of 2025. Self, Culture, and Society is a three-quarter sequence that fulfills the University's general education requirement in the social sciences. The sequence introduces students to a broad range of social scientific theories and methodologies that deepen their understanding of basic problems of cultural, social, and historical existence. The successful candidate will teach two sections of Self, Culture, and Society in the winter quarter, with the possibility of an additional section in the spring quarter depending on curricular needs. Responsibilities include preparing and teaching a seminar-style course, holding regularly scheduled office hours, preparing and grading assignments, and attending weekly instructional staff meetings. The per course salary is $7,538.00 and the position is not benefits-eligible.
The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University.
Qualifications
The position requires a Ph.D. in a social science discipline and is open to applicants who will have completed all requirements for their Ph.D. no later than December 29, 2024. Applicants must have a record of exemplary teaching at the college level, preferably in seminar-style courses that are reading and writing-intensive.
