This position serves as the Director of the Horizons Child Development Center. This position will be responsible for the administrative duties of the center, supervising child care staff and ensuring that the facility is in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations governing child care in regard to both the physical environment and the staff. The center has the capacity to serve up to 40 children. This position will supervise 11 direct reports (the assistant director and 10 child care teachers) and will work with these employees to continue to develop in their positions and careers.
This position will need to know about childcare licensure requirements, ITERS and ECERS (child care environment rating scales) enhanced standard requirements, safety requirements, child care food program requirements and child care voucher requirements. Knowledge of Early Head Start Program standards and how to implement the standards. The person in this position would need to effectively convey information to parents (patients) in the program, supervisees and Management Team members. This person would also need to be able to manage the staff with minimal supervision. Must be able to meet the basic physical care needs of the children in a manner that is appropriate to the individual child. Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood development that allows him/her to meet the needs of these high risk children in a group and individual setting to improve their age appropriate socialization and behavior skills. Must be able to understand and supervise the development and implementation of daily individual instructional plans for each of the children which are developmentally appropriate, and to monitor each child's progress and report to other members on the child team.
This position will participate in Horizons Interdisciplinary child team weekly to report the children's developmental progress and to actively problem solve and develop care plans for the children. Must communicate with on-site therapists in the classroom about the children's progress and implement their recommendations. Must effectively communicate with parents daily about their children's progress and any identified needs. Must be able to effectively communicate with all members of the UNC Horizons staff regarding the patients, their children, observed interactions and any other concerns that may arise. Effective communication with Psychological therapist, case managers, Developmental therapists (PT/OT/Speech and Language) and other childcare staff members. Monitors children for deficiencies in their development. Must make recommendations to supervisor and therapists for developmental needs that the children may have. Must work with the parents to ensure that they understand the therapist's recommendations and how to address these needs at home.
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related childcare experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
