Overview:


The Department of Justice and Law in the College of Arts & Sciences at Quinnipiac University is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Criminal Justice faculty member to teach at the undergraduate level and to support the development and delivery of a graduate-level certificate program. Applicants from a variety of criminal justice backgrounds will be considered, with a strong preference for those who have expertise in restorative justice and victimology.


The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor (or Instructor for candidates with a master's degree) with expectations for teaching four courses per semester, advising students, and engaging in service activities and committees that strengthen the program, department, college, and university community. The anticipated start date is August 2025.


This position directly supports the Criminal Justice major and minor that have consistently experienced increased enrollment in recent years. Housed in the Department of Justice and Law, alongside programs in Legal Studies/Law in Society, and Justice and Community Engagement, the successful candidate may, based on credentials and experience, have opportunities to teach across the curriculum. including overseeing student internships.

Responsibilities:


  • Teach the Introduction to Criminal Justice and Research Methods courses, as well as other classes in support of the Criminal Justice Major. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses in their area of specialty.

  • Teach courses that serve majors and minors in Legal Studies and Justice and Community Engagement

  • Support the development and delivery of a gradual-level certificate in Criminal Justice

  • Hold regular office hours for students

  • Guide, advise, and mentor students academically and professionally

  • Engage in service to support the program, department, college and university, which includes attending department and college meetings and other university events as required

  • Be willing to engage in media interviews and to communicate scholarly information to the public

  • Education Requirements:



    • A terminal degree in criminal justice (or related field) is preferred and required at the time of employment to be hired at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. Candidates with a master's degree in criminal justice (or closely related field) are eligible to be hired at the rank of Instructor.

  • Preferred Qualifications



    • Ability to teach the Introduction to Forensic Psychology course that supports our Psychology major and rapidly growing Forensic Science minor

    • Demonstrated success in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels

    • Ability to develop and teach courses that address the issues of race, ethnicity, gender, and/or socioeconomic class in criminal justice
