Position Summary Under the supervision of the Electrical Maintenance Superintendent, the primary function of the Electrical Maintenance Technician is to perform preventive maintenance and inspections on electrical equipment including MCC's, switches, and lubrication of vertical and horizontal electric motors. This position will require travel to multiple locations around the Central Texas area, and provide detailed records of equipment serviced. The technician will be responsible for district predictive maintenance techniques such as oil sampling, , thermal inspections, vibration analysis, advanced electrical troubleshooting, balancing and alignments.
Essential Functions
Change oil and grease bearings on electric motors
Torque terminations as required in electrical gear as reported on thermography reports
Inspect completed work for conformance with requirements of local building and safety codes
Monitor and assist in the planning of daily and future scheduled preventive maintenance tasks
Investigate component failures, communicating results to management to improve plant availability and reduce unplanned down time
Inspect equipment with advanced technologies such as vibration analysis, thermography, oil sampling and PQM testing.
Assist in developing and maintaining a preventative and predictive maintenance program
Mentor, train and provide technical advice to staff regarding preventive maintenance and electrical repairs and safety procedures
Maintain clean and safe work areas
Complete daily safety and maintenance reports completely and accurately
Adhere to federal, state, local and plant safety rules and regulations
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
Must be able to read, write and verbally communicate
Self-starter with ability to work with little or no supervision
Must be a team member, willing to assist others when called upon
Knowledge of industrial plant operations pertaining to crushing
Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) electric standards
Ability to work inside of a excel spread sheet.
Possess the ability to read and understand operator, parts, repair manuals, and electrical schematics including ladder logic, used for new installations and troubleshooting existing equipment
Knowledge of electric motor trouble shooting
Must be able to work irregular shifts, weekends and holidays as required
Must be able to work overtime and on-call as required
Ability to work 10 to 14 hour days, willing to change arrival times when required
Preferred Education and Experience
State of Texas license either maintenance or journeyman electrician a plus
5 years' experience in aggregates or similar industry desired
Experience with production conveyors and crusher operations, trouble shooting and repair desired
Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving history
Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner. This job requires the use of PPE to include but not limited to a hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed lace up boots and hearing protection
Must be able to climb stairs to a height of 100 ft. and work at this height
Must be able to work in confined spaces
Ability to operate radio, CB radio, computer and other equipment as required
Must be able to bend, stoop, climb and reach around all areas of equipment
Must be able to climb on and off equipment to inspect, service, and operate
Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs
Must be able to walk across steep/rough terrain
Must be able to work at various heights
Ability to use hand tools such as shovels, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.
Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions consistent with extreme ambient temperatures, dusty, and noisy conditions
WORKING CONDITIONS
There will be times when outside assignments may require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.
