Job Description:




Budget Title: Lead Programmer/Analyst (SL-3)




Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience




Binghamton University is looking for a Virtual Systems Analyst to administer and manage the Virtual infrastructure for the University. The Virtual Systems Analyst is a part of the Enterprise Systems group and reports to the Virtual Systems Manager. The Enterprise Systems group is responsible for the University systems infrastructure and the development and support of many of the Universities' teaching, learning, research, and business systems. The Systems team identifies and builds solutions that are reliable, scalable, and based on proven technologies by vendors such as VMWare, Dell, Microsoft, Oracle and many others. The successful candidate will work on a team and be responsible for all aspects of the Universities' virtual systems infrastructure and storage systems. This includes installation, backup, tuning, maintenance, and change management of the platform. Projects may be independent or developed as part of a larger team.




In addition, the Virtual Systems Analyst will:





  • Advance the virtualization infrastructure through multiple product lifecycle environments, keeping the system current, patched, and up to date as necessary and/or directed.

  • Maintain the University's storage infrastructure and deploy storage as requested.

  • Maintain DR and backup solutions and ensure schedules are completed for all virtual machines.

  • Assist in architecting, designing, and supporting the Binghamton University cloud and infrastructure strategy.

  • Investigate new products and technologies that can enhance the performance and stability of the virtual infrastructure.

  • Implement continuous operations and disaster recovery strategies for this environment including potential cloud strategies as they are developed.

  • Assist in developing business analytics to allow for deeper insight into the performance of the virtual infrastructure.

  • Maintain the Universities' virtual desktop infrastructure.

  • Maintain and enhance documentation for best practices for server infrastructure, virtualization, and cloud computing environments.

  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues, providing problem resolution end-to-end.

  • Work in a team setting and provide a positive working environment.




This position will be eligible for a partial/limited hybrid work location under the NYS, Binghamton University, and ITS approved remote work location agreements.






Requirements:





  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems/Sciences (or a related field) OR an Associate's Degree in a related field with two years of proven work in a virtualization environment

  • Experience in server administration, including security and patching

  • Experience documenting new and existing processes as well as updating existing documentation when changes are necessary

  • Experience in network protocols, IP addressing, and basic switching

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong analytical skills, and ability to deal with ambiguity in a changing business environment




Preferred:





  • Experience working in a higher education or research environment is a plus

  • Experience with VSphere, VMware VDI, DR, backup, and storage technologies

  • Formal VMWare training or certification is a plus

  • Experience with Linux operating systems
