Position Summary:

Incidence and mortality of endometrial (uterine) cancer is increasing at an alarming rate. Obesity, hormone exposures, and inherited cancer risk (DNA mismatch repair defects called Lynch syndrome) are major risk factors for developing uterine cancer. However, this disease has received limited attention, resulting in significant knowledge gaps in mechanisms of uterine cancer development. Major health disparities have been observed for uterine cancer outcomes in underserved populations, but have received little attention at the molecular level. A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the laboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Yates has recently moved to UNC and her research uses preclinical models and human tissue studies to define mechanisms of uterine cancer development and opportunities for cancer prevention. The successful applicant will study contributions of environmental factors (obesity, hormones, etc.) in endometrial cancer development and outcomes.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

PhD in a biological science, or comparable field, such as, biology, cellular biology, developmental biology, molecular biology, pharmacology, toxicology, biomedical science, biomedical engineering, biochemistry, clinical laboratory science, or professional equivalent MD, DO, or DVM.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Candidate must have enthusiasm for research, interest in mentoring junior researchers, exceptional organization skills, and strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience in cancer biology or hormone signaling/endocrinology is strongly preferred. Prior experience with rodent models of cancer or organoid cultures is preferred. Experience with research or core labs at UNC is preferred.
