Director of English Language ServicesDescription/Job Summary

The purpose of the Director, ESL is to oversee the daily operation of the English Language Service Department. This include supervising staff, monitoring adjunct contracts, monitoring ESL classes, recruitment, and grant management.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Oversee the development and management of quality instructional services for about 60 off-campus sites throughout the Baltimore metropolitan area and statewide.

  • Supervise the management of all grant-funded programs and activities and seek alternate sources of funding to increase services and provide support for ESL students.

  • Manager the various budgets and grants that have been awarded to the department, ensuring all milestones/metrics are met, reports are submitted on time.

  • Assume leadership responsibility for integration and success of continuing education students into mainstream non-credit occupational and credit programs.

  • Oversee the aspects of ELS programs, including curriculum development, faculty recruitment and orientation, budgets, studeent testing and placement, student retention and program/staff evaluations

  • Set vision and directions for the Workforce Development English Language Services programs.

  • Work to improve effectiveness and quality of communication and coordination of support services with offices college wide in service of student retention and success.

  • Establish and nurture partnerships with key community leaders, MD State Dept of Education, the Dept of Labor, Mayor's Office of Employment Development, and the Dept of Human Services to support and assist in the development of English Language Services

  • Develop support structures and processes to effectively administer of all English Language programs and collaborate and coordinate efforts with offices and staff to support student success.

  • Work with faculty and staff to match college resources to educational needs of the community.

  • Plan, initiate, and oversee marketing efforts

  • Assesses community needs for English Language programs and services to develop, supervise and evaluate credit and non-credit programs to address those needs.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Language Arts or a related field.

  • At least 10 years' experience in supervising staff

  • At least 10 years' experience in higher education or K-12

  • At least 7 years' experience in managing programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate Degree in a Language Arts or a related field

  • At least 15 years' experience in supervising staff

  • At least 15 years' experience in higher education or K-12

  • At least 10 years' experience in managing programs
