Job Description
The Post-baccalaureate Fellow engages deeply with the academic mission of the Wellesley College Botanic Gardens (WCBG), serving as a near-peer mentor for the robust work-study and summer internship programs while building their own knowledge and skills. The Fellow gains experience with a range of roles, such as hands-on care and monitoring of the most academically-focused gardens, curation, program development, and creative interpretation of plants and spaces, according to their interests and the current needs of the WCBG. The Fellow also develops and carries out a specific in-depth project of their choice that supports WCBG priorities such as climate resilience, biodiversity, and biocultural connections in these learning landscapes. Professional development includes support for conference participation. One-year term appointment with the possibility of extension.
Position Responsibility:
Take primary responsibility for the regular monitoring and adaptive maintenance of an academically-focused garden such as the Edible Ecosystem Teaching Garden or a section of the Global Flora conservatory, including mentoring student assistants
Support Botanic Gardens staff in projects throughout the gardens and greenhouses and in co-mentoring summer interns
Develop and implement a capstone project
Collaborate with students, staff, and faculty to develop and implement hands-on learning activities, research projects and other programming in the gardens and greenhouses

Basic Qualifications
Interest and experience with plant identification, ecological horticulture and/or botanical research.
Experience and commitment to contributing to an inclusive and supportive culture in a diverse community.
B.A./B.S. with relevant coursework in Biology, Horticulture/Plant Science, Environmental Studies, or related fields.
Familiarity with work in a botanical garden or public park setting and experience with growing diverse plants strongly preferred.
Experience leading volunteers, interns or students in hands-on work preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong observational skills and interest in plants, gardens and landscapes.
Ability to work effectively in a wide range of climatic conditions both independently and as part of a team.
Basic computer skills and comfort with Google docs and spreadsheets.
