Job Summary:
The Park Ranger is responsible for the protection, preservation, and enhancement of natural, cultural, and recreational resources within designated park areas. This role includes ensuring visitor safety, enforcing park rules and regulations, conducting educational programs, and performing various maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Visitor Assistance and Safety:
Provide information and assistance to park visitors.Conduct patrols to monitor park areas, ensuring the safety and security of visitors and wildlife.Respond to emergencies, including search and rescue operations, medical incidents, and law enforcement situations.
Enforcement:
Enforce park rules, regulations, and policies.Issue warnings or citations for violations.Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies as necessary.
Resource Management:
Assist in the conservation and protection of natural and cultural resources.Conduct wildlife and vegetation surveys.Participate in habitat restoration projects.
Education and Interpretation:
Develop and present educational programs, guided tours, and interpretive talks to the public.Create informational materials such as brochures, signs, and exhibits.Engage with community groups and schools to promote park resources and programs.
Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance tasks such as trail upkeep, facility cleaning, and minor repairs.Monitor and report on park infrastructure conditions.Assist in the construction and installation of park amenities.
Administrative Duties:
Prepare reports and maintain records of park activities, incidents, and visitor statistics.Assist in budget planning and resource allocation.Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent (required).Degree in park management, natural resources, environmental science, or a related field (preferred).
Experience:
Previous experience in park operations, natural resource management, or law enforcement (preferred).
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to handle stressful situations and emergencies.Basic first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and cultural history.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.Physical stamina to hike, lift, and perform manual labor.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.Requires working weekends, holidays, and irregular hours.May involve exposure to hazardous conditions, such as wildlife encounters and rough terrain.
